Hugh Hewitt: poopyhead

I’ve heard of him often - another conservative law professor with a blog. I had higher hopes for him than what I got.

Anyway, I think I’m detecting a new pattern on the right: Disagree with poll results? Attack the methodology!

Tonight he was lambasting John Zogby for his poll of troops in Iraq. You know the one.

So I suggested a solution… If MyDD can commission a poll with its light to moderate traffic, surely the entire blogosphere could come up with the wherewithal to commission their own… Let’s get a group of respected bloggers together from both sides of the divide. Give them a week to compose their own mutually acceptable questions. Hire a pollster that commands respect from both contingents.

I mean, this is a pretty important question, isn’t it? Exactly what do the men and women that are fighting the war think of the effort? Do they think it’s worth it? Do they know what they are fighting for?

As I told Hugh… I know why morale stays high in unpopular conflicts - you are fighting for your brothers. I finished my enlisment in the Corps in January, 1990 - just as Desert Shield was ramping up. When I was at home, a big part of me wanted back in - my friends of the last 4 years were all over in Kuwait, getting ready to do what we had trained to do for all that time. I felt more than a little guilty that they were sleeping in dirt while I enjoyed life as a civilian…

But if you think those guys were stupid, your nuts. Many of them had no time for politics and there were more than enough that marched lock-step to their orders as loyal and blind followers… Regimented life suits a particular personality type… But… now, three years later with no end in sight, and progress as elusive as ever… Well, the majority of soldiers - some of them on their third tour now - know they are banging their heads against a wall for a leadership team that has no plan and no clue how to get one.

They know FUBAR when they see it.

can you explain the result of 90% of the troops think they are in iraq to get saddam for his supporting role in 9-11?
