Was thinking about some of the things I’ve posted about here, and it occurred to me that, for the most part, nobody else has been systematically and closely monitoring talk radio and challenging them when they cross the line.

Sure, Media Matters for America has been working pretty damned hard for us since 2004, but that gave the wingnuts 10 years of unbounded latitude.  Ten years of unchallenged lies, distortions and disgusting rhetoric.

Who would have told you about Limbaugh’s “fraternity” remarks regarding Abu Grahb if it weren’t for Media Matters?  How would you have ever know the O’Reilly invited Al Qaeda to blow up San Francisco?

That’s another reason I think this work is important.  Rush probably reaches 6-10 million people daily…  Hannity 4-5 million…  And it is an unmonitored, unaccountable medium.  Until recently.

Which brings me to my next issue…  I cannot do this alone.  I’ve had fun calling these nuts and putting our message out, but there is so much more that can be done.  So I am going to start recruiting.

I KNOW I’m missing a lot of actionable material.  When I’m monitoring O’Reilly, Limbaugh has free reign.  I catch Hannity maybe three times a week if I’m (un)lucky.  So I need some help.  For now, I want to put a general request out - if you enjoy talk radio, start recording it so that you can send me clips when the gas-bags say something silly.  Try calling while you are listening.  Check out the tipsheet to calling talk radio and make use of the tips - then go get ‘em.

Soon, however, I will need to recruit a front pager.  I’ll be starting law school in August and between now and then there will be times that I will be travelling to visit campuses.  There will be other times when things come up and I’ll have to go away for a couple fo days.  I don’t want the blog to go dark, so I’m putting out the call.  I need somebody that will commit to calling at least one show a day, recording the audio, manipulating the file to make it conform to our technology and posting it to the website.  If you are interested and can fill that roll, please leave a comment and start recording calls for me to post.

    Where are these tips located?

If people are calling in, I’d think it would be best to first start a dialog so that if you are cut on the 7 second delay it will be easier to make a statement.

This should have been happening a long time ago. These people are monsters, and lie consistantly to portray an illusion that is accepted unless there is vocal opposition.

Maybe I can even get on with the name Lou.

Cheers Mike on your recent KO KO of Bill Oh-Really. Great work. Here’s an idea

Here is one company that does Audio Transcription.

    http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/

If an archive of talk radio transcripts (and Tv audio also) could be created and was searchable by Subject and Date, the people could research, and we could use Quotes all over the place, particularly when calling back.

“On Aug 23, 2005, Mr Hannity, you said blah blah blah about blah blah blah. Do you still hold this opinion?”

Newhounds does this with TV to some respect, and with much success. Great site.

No one that I have seen has transcribed the (more outrageous) talk radio shows however that I have seen.

    Anyhow, thanks for the efforts.

    Take em to the mat!

sigh…wish I could. day job getting in the way.
One thing thise site ahs got to do is make it easier to call. I had to go to Falafel’s website (barf-barf-barf….) (and seriously, that ain’t his body on the homepage photo)
    and found time and number:
Call the Radio Factor LIVE on the air with your question or comment! Call 1-877-9-NO-SPIN between noon and 2 PM ET and opine!

this info needs to be posted on the homepage, along with Limbaugh’s, etc….

A directory of all wingnuts (Name, City, Times On Air) at minimum would be great for the web public. We could call whomever wherever.

I’m not sure I would link their sites, but perhaps just list their websites in “copyable” text for us, so you don’t raise too many eyebrows too soon, via their Referrer logs on their end. It would be more sneaky.

    Plus, why drive them traffic.

Sorry, lost the table when I entered it. Names appear under start time with links to internet streams. BOR is 2hrs, LimpBalls is 3 hrs, most others are 3, too.

Well, I don’t record any of the calls I make to radio stations.

Some things that could be done:

    1. Wikipedia: Being a user edited site, one can post the statements about the various hosts we’re dealing with. Considering how Wiki operates, you’re likely only able to edit 2nd tier people like Ingraham and Snow. Hell, add a segment where you can list the lies, deceits and mistakes made by the host.

    2. Premium Membership: Maybe a number agree to have premium membership and thus access to the archives of call in shows. They’re contacted with the day and approximate time in the show that has conversation to sample and submit for posting. As we know, Poor Mike lost his O’Liely membership recently so could use some help on this.

I’m sure there are some other ideas. Exploiting Wiki is useful I think. I mean exploit in a good way. No lies or inflammatory remarks.

Helloooo? Please go to www.fair.org. FAIR has been monitoring right-wing outrages, including extensive documentation of Rush Limbaugh’s errors and those of other right-wing shock jocks, for 20 years now. Since before the invention of the web. And they’re still at it. If you’re not familiar with their work, you’ve got some catching up to do.

    Thanks Ralphbon…

I was uninformed and do, indeed, have some catching up to do!

There was a group doing this in the DC area back in ‘91. There favorite target was G. Gordon Liddy. It was when he was on WJFK before he was syndicated. Their schick was to make up a story that was laughably bullshit but something a conservative couldn’t resist. My favorite was when one of them pretended to be soldier and complained that a gay guy in his unit was always staring at his “pup tent” and keeping him up all night playing show tunes. That one made the WA Post and really pissed Liddy off when he figured out that they played him for a fool. He went all O’Reilly when the article came out, threatening the caller with threats of arrest for lying to the media.

    Love your calls!

And thanks for your good works on behalf of all those blastocyst-Americans.

Mike, Love the site. I’ve trying to do something like this myself…via email…and so far it’s gotten only a limited response. Any tips?
