He was a Deputy Undersecretary of Defense in the first Bush administration. When I found out that he was a contributor to American Spectator, I had high hopes for some entertaining fireworks… but this conversation was actually fairly benign.

We talked about Iran. I just don’t see any reasonable options, and, evidently, neither does he.

I’m currently an AD Marine serving in Iraq, and agree 100% with your assessment on Iranian influence on the Shi’a in Southern Iraq. From Sadr all the way up to the Grand Ayatollah Sistani, Iranian influence is everywhere in Najaf, Nasiriyah, Kut, Basrah, you name it. I personally think SCIRI runs the show down there.

Next thing, your comments on a nuclear attack in the United States; regardless of feasibility, I feel that if a nuclear attack occurred within the US, we would absolutely respond almost immediately. You would think, living in a post 9/11 America, we would have our ears to the ground for any large scale terrorist attack, but if something did happen, IF, I’m sure we would know who was responsible just as quick as we knew Bin Laden was responsible for the attacks in New York and Washington.

I am a little unsure whether or not Iran would do a pre-emptive strike against Americans. I would almost like to think, that they didn’t start getting fired up until we shook the bee hive with the UN inspections and talks with the IAEA. It’s going to be interesting to see how this all pans out.
