Mr. Chuck2,

I agree that people need to take responsibility for their actions, but your thoughts on marriage ending abortions is flawed. Single people are not the only ones who have abortions. I've volunteered at shelters for battered women and have seen married women who have left an abusive situation finding themselves pregnant and not wanting to bring a baby into situation. it's not always 'oh shit, I don't want this kid" Some people do abuse the right to have an abortion but not all people do. It can be a long and agonizing decision with a million reasons why they feel they have to make that choice. Right now, I would never dream of having an abortion, but one day I might find myself in situation where that is the solution.

I wish you had answered my other questions. You really skirted the issue about what you would do. And without getting into the when is it a human being debate.... I'm not 100% sure of my feelings. Right now, I think my position is if it can survive outside of the womb, then it is a very bad thing to to attempt an abortion. But that is moot because once children can survive outside of the womb, one can no longer have an abortion except under dire circumstances.

It's about personal responsibility. If people do not have sex until they are married then there really isnt any need for abortions.
Obviously in the real world, that doesn't happen. I realize that as long as people have sex, there are going to be people who get pregnant and then say 'oh shit i dont want this kid."
Our society should encourage that when such a situation arises, there are plenty of answers to abortion. Adoption is a great choice considering how many infertile couples there are out there. We should not just give up on a life because it creates an inconvience.
No one is forced to have sex (except rape of course). So it is someone's personal choice to have sex. That is where the choice is. If you chose to have sex and become pregnant you should not punish that very very small, very underdeveloped human being because you 'dont want it." Its not an 'it' its a human being, just at a very very early stage of development.
You cannot say that a child in the womb 5 sec before birth somehow 'magically' comes to life 5 sec later.
We should not give up on a human being just because its small and tiny and the easiest thing to do is just kill it. Thats not the society I want to live in. caring for the smallest and weakest among us is true compassion to me.

Mr.Chuck 2,

My priority is the children who are already here.

When there are no more homeless children; no more hungry children; no more children in foster care; no more children in orphanages; no more children dying from child abuse; no more children without health care... then maybe we can talk. Maybe.

She finds herself pregnant and not wanting to keep it because she just really can't afford it. You want her to go ahead and have this baby. Are you going to adopt it? Are you going to give charitably to her to pay for the upkeep of it? Or are you complain about your taxes going to pay for it through medicare and welfare?
You can't have it both ways. You can't force her to keep it and then complain about her having a child that society has to pay for.

Admittedly, you personally did not make that leap, but most people that hold your opinion, do just that - complain about your taxes having to pay for the poor. Yet forcing people to bring more children in the world.

And while I'm on my soapbox - do you do any mentoring? Do you take time out to talk to young girls and boys? Do you talk to girls about respecting themselves and not falling any dumb thing a boy says? Do you talk to boys and tell them that even if she says she's on the pill to wear a condom anyway? Do you tell boys that if they find themselves in this situation to step up to the plate and do the right thing? What would you do if your 14 year-old daughter made a mistake and had sex once and got pregnant. Do you make her keep your grandchild and raise it yourself? Do you force your child to get married? What if your child is raped? Do you make her keep the baby? Would you make your 16 year old boy drop out of school and get a job to support the neighbor girl he knocked up?
Is there *any* situation in which you would agree to an abortion?

Just asking...

You people think you care so much about everyone and conservatives dont care.
Give me a break. Social programs have increased at a record pace since 2000, with conservatives in power.

You care about everyone except the most defenseless members of society, the unborn.
Why don't you stand up for them?

I disagree with you on many levels. I most certainly thought about having a family when I was single and "having fun" It wasn't like I was day dreaming about the man who would be my prince and father my children. BUT I was *very* aware that accidents happen and I chose not to engage in one-night stands. My mother always told us (me and my 6 brothers) not to sleep with someone who we wouldn't want to have a baby with. She was not telling us to practice abstinence. She was not telling us to plan a wedding with a casual fling. She was not telling us to not have fun, but she was telling us that we had to have sex responsibly. She wanted us to ask ourselves if we could be a parent with the person we were fooling around with.

I made sure that I used the pill *and* condoms and thank god because some of the guys turned out to be LOSERS and I would be raising a child on my own and fighting in the court system. None of my brothers had to face being a "baby daddy" either.
We're all married and with children now, btw.

Please don't take this as being judgemental or thumbing my nose. I just believe that *some* of this mess wouldn't happen if *both* parties were willing to take responsibility for their actions.

Proud to be a liberal.

Thanks Mom!
