Liar.

Liar. Cynical and disgusting. Loathsome.
I referenced these snippetts in the Hugh Hewitt call two posts previous. Here’s the text from the White House web site:
I just got to keep talking. And one of the — there’s word of mouth, there’s blogs, there’s Internet, there’s all kinds of ways to communicate which is literally changing the way people are getting their information. And so if you’re concerned, I would suggest that you reach out to some of the groups that are supporting the troops, that have got Internet sites, and just keep the word — keep the word moving. And that’s one way to deal with an issue without suppressing a free press. We will never do that in America. I mean, the minute we start trying to suppress our press, we look like the Taliban. The minute we start telling people how to worship, we look like the Taliban. And we’re not interested in that in America. We’re the opposite. We believe in freedom. And we believe in freedom in all its forms. And obviously, I know you’re frustrated with what you’re seeing, but there are ways in this new kind of age, being able to communicate, that you’ll be able to spread the message that you want to spread. (audio below)
Fact check: Wonkette got this email from a Marine:
Just to let you know, the US Marines have blocked access to “Wonkette” along with numerous other sites such as personal email (i.e. Yahoo, AT&T, Hotmail, etc), blogs that don’t agree with the government point of view, personal websites, and some news organizatons. This has taken effect as of the beginning of February. I have no problem with them blocking porn sites (after all it is a government network), but cutting off access to our email and possibly-not-toeing-the-government-line websites is a bit much.
Initially all web blocking was done locally at the hub sites in Iraq. If you wanted a site “unblocked” you just had to email the local administrator with a reason (like, “I’d like to read my email, please.”), and if it wasn’t porn or offensive, they’d allow it. Now, all blocking is done by desk-weenies at the USMC Network Operations Center in Quantico, VA, who really don’t care if we get our email (or gossip) out here, as they get to go to happy hour after working 9 to 5 and go home to a nice clean, warm home with a real bed! (Sorry, I’m a little peeved.)
So, what sites are restricted? Which ones aren’t? More from the Marine:
Unfortunately anonomizers don’t work out here (never have). Anyway, I had a few minutes today and thought I’d look and see what else was banned on the Marine web here. I think the results speak for themselves:
- Wonkette – “Forbidden, this page (http://www.wonkette.com/) is categorized as: Forum/Bulletin Boards, Politics/Opinion.”
- Bill O’Reilly (www.billoreilly.com) – OK
- Air America (www.airamericaradio.com) – “Forbidden, this page (http://www.airamericaradio.com/) is categorized as: Internet Radio/TV, Politics/Opinion.”

- ABC News “The Note” – OK

I spent four years in the Marines. The idea that this administration would have the chutzpuh and gall to ask Marines to “fight for freedoms” while restricting allowable political “news” to that of propagandistic sycophants… I just don’t have the words. I am sputtering mad.
And then Bush goes before a hand-picked audience and lies about it in the most cynical way. I’ve never witnessed a more disgusting and cynical example of condescending contempt for the American people. He spit in my eye.
Well, I appreciate you saying that. (Applause.) A couple of points. First, you tell your kids thanks. The good news is, for moms and dads and husbands and wives and children, that, in spite of the debate you’re seeing in Washington, that there is a commitment to support our troops when we — when they’re in harm’s way. There may be an argument about tactics and whether or not we should have done it in the first place; I understand that. But the Congress has stood up, and that’s what the Congress should do. And take comfort, please, sir, in knowing that the debates that you’re seeing will not lessen our government’s support for making sure the people are well-trained, well-paid, well-equipped, well-housed. We owe that. And I’m pleased with the congressional response to supporting troops.
The Army Times says it all in its lede on 2/6/06:
The smallest pay raise for troops in more than a decade and billions of dollars for expensive weapons programs highlight the proposed 2007 defense budget unveiled Monday by the Bush administration.
And there’s this:
Pentagon Study Found that 80 Percent Of Marines Killed By Wounds To Upper Body Could Have Been Saved If They Had the Right Kind of Armor. A Pentagon study has found that as many as 80 percent of the marines who have been killed in Iraq from wounds to the upper body could have survived if they had had extra body armor. Such armor has been available since 2003, but until recently the Pentagon has largely declined to supply it to troops despite calls from the field for additional protection, according to military officials. (New York Times, 1/7/06)
Stupidity. At this point, there’s nothing else left to explain why President Bush’s approval numbers are at 35%. 35% of the American public is just so fucking dense… so enamored and swept up in Bush’s cult of personality… S T U P I D. Dumb as rocks. Mind-numbed cult worshippers. There can’t be any other explanation.

Hey Mike, love your site.
Your last paragraph says it all. The Great Leader certainly does draw an “interesting” bunch of citizens. My only thoughts on this post is that it apears to have to many words and ideas bunched together for that 35% to comprehend, and when they (Chuck 2) attempt to read it they will get confused by the facts and thus focus on the harsh language which hurts their thin and fragile skins.
Paraphrasing what I said in an earlier post; more entrepenuers like you should sprout up to get around the Marine TaliBANs in VA.
Our troops deserve better than the current Great Leader. They sacrifice everything to cover his ego, incompetence, and mistakes. Why should they die so that the governments that come to pass are, at best, vaguely better than what was there; ie. Sharia Law - you know, kill the Christians, chop off the hands of starving bread thieves, heroin traders, and on and on. The only thing we are getting out of it appears to be dead and wounded soldiers and an out of control defecit (making us beholden to foreign governments).
If you truly believe in this venture, you should also believe in paying for it today from your own taxes, not after you are dead from my childrens taxes.
The borrower is slave to the lender.
You catch this one from Bush? He asks us to “…imagine an enemy that says: We will kill innocent people because we’re trying to encourage people to be free.”
Use this to patch in the audio from your tape recorder (i think thats what you are using) to the mic in the soundcard.

You can get these a lot cheaper, sometimes Dollar Stores have them. You just need a sterio cable (mini) with two male ends.
Great site, keep up the good work!
This story has been debunked.
The military DOES block sites on their military work computers.
They block sites for a variety of reasons.
Commercial emails, like hotmail, are blocked because of fears of sabotage. I assume you are okay with that, right?
They block sites because of bandwidth issues, so that the lack of bandwidth does not inhibit their ability to do their jobs well and promptly. I assume you are okay with that too, right?
They block site because of certain key words that their protection software, WebSense, finds. This software does not block individual sites by name, but blocks by sensing certain attributes about those sites.
The fact that some liberal sites are blocked does not mean that they are blocked because of their liberal tenor. DailyKos is not blocked.
Streaming audio availability is one of the things that WebSense looks for. It is readily available from AirAmerica’s site, but from Rush Limbaugh, you have to get to another related site to access that streaming audio. So AirAmerica is blocked, and Rush Limbaugh is not. It has NOTHING to do with the political content of the sites.
Facts. They’re a wonderful thing.
Oh, and one more thing.
The soldiers have ready access to all sites except for pornography from the computers in their rec areas. It is only work computers that are directly connected to the military work areas that have these blocks on them. In the MWR areas, they can access hotmail and Wonkette and other sites.
Well Sue,
We can believe you or the Marine…
What streams from Wonkette?
sabatoge - please, spare me… from Hotmail…
critical thinking is a wonderful thing too… instead of lying prone before Dear Leader, why don’t you address a 2 point fucking 2 pay raise proposal?
It is too bad Sue could not give any sources for her points. Perhaps she or maybe a friend or husband is in the Military and that is how she knows the ins and outs of the blocking policies. This article would seem to support Sue’s point that security concerns are behind the blocking and not something political.
“This concerns us, because so many of our patrons won’t be able to access their e-mail, and many come to the library to do just that,” said Ciro Giordano, supervisory librarian at Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy.
“But access to such services leaves the unclassified government network TOO SUSCEPTIBLE TO HACKERS AND COMPUTER VIRUSES, said Neal Miller, a senior plans and policy manager with Naval Network Warfare Command in Norfolk, Va.
“By going through some of the commercial Web-based e-mail accounts, it opens up vulnerabilities to government-run networks and presents too high [of a] risk to be acceptable,” Miller said.
“The policy covers sailors, Marines and DOD employees and contractors using Navy Department computers, and applies to those downrange who operate on Navy computer systems.”

Hi Chuckie, remember me??? I was the first to draw attention to the fact that you lack, well, BALLS. And I called you the Angry Puss. Ah, the good old days. I miss ‘em.
Now I’m here to say that Sue is full of turds, sort of like you, Chuck. And Chuck, I’ve asked you before to stop pretending to be a lawyer. There you go again, quoting stuff, making it appear like you’re all official and everything.
An Air America stream of 16.1 kbps is hardly a bandwidth issue. Why, even a lowly 56k dialup modem can handle that one. Hell, a tin can and string could handle that bandwidth issue, Susie-Q. Or maybe Susie-Shrew is a better designation.
That’s one lie, dear. I’ll just assume that everything else you wrote is made up, too. You pull stuff out of your ass, like Chuck, don’t you!
Oh, and Susie: Have you met Chuck? Perhaps we could be a sort of e-Harmony here and bring you both together. I’m thinking that two half-brains like you might make sweet brain farts together.
Bob
Why do you personally attack people you disagree with?
Hopefully, Sue will post again and tell us her source for the points she raised. However, one made she made was:
“Commercial emails, like hotmail, are blocked because of fears of sabotage. I assume you are okay with that, right?”
The article I quoted said something very similar to Sue’s point:
“But access to such services leaves the unclassified government network too susceptible to hackers and computer viruses, said Neal Miller, a senior plans and policy manager with Naval Network Warfare Command in Norfolk, Va.”
“By going through some of the commercial Web-based e-mail accounts, it opens up vulnerabilities to government-run networks and presents too high [of a] risk to be acceptable,” Miller said.
It would seem to any fair minded person this quote and article backs up that one point which Sue mentioned. This Miller guy works for Naval Warfare Command in Norfolk, Va. He would seem like a credible source to me.
No response from Bob yet.
