Some local flava
Published by Mike Stark March 24th, 2006 in UncategorizedI called the Mayor of Albany this morning. He’s got his own radio show and we’ve gone round and round in the past. He’s an old-school politician and extremely talented at what he does. I don’t know of very many politicians willing to take calls (and criticism) on a radio show that reaches their entire constituency. The man has a pair, even if I do disagree with most of what he does.
That said, I’m glad I don’t have his job. I actually felt kind of bad in making this call because I know Sweeney, as a Republican in Bush/Delay’s “circle of trust” can target some bacon for the greater capital district… In the same way that Guliani endorsed Cuomo years ago, it probably makes political sense for Jennings to endorse Sweeney.
Well, I just found out he won’t be doing that. He won’t be endorsing Kirsten Gillibrand (the most exciting Democrat we’ve had run against Sweeney since he’s had his seat) either, but nuetrality is a step up.

Is the Mayor a wingnut? If not, why is he on your call list?
Since wingnut talk show hosts are screening out - blackballing - repeat callers with callerid, you may need to recruit more people to join continue the cause.
I enjoy the “troll” posts in the comments section. The outrage is palpable.
I think it’s good that you call local and national shows. For others interested in trying this, calling local shows first might be a good idea, to hone our skills.
On another issue, is there a way for us to share things we have heard wingnuts say, that we believe can be used to attack them. There are so many shows, and we can’t listen to them all. One problem, if the information was exchanged publicly, the wingnuts could also read it, and prepare a response. I think it’s better of they don’t know what’s coming.
can someone take out Jay Severin?
Severin is cagey and confrontational. It might take an organized approach - multiple callers. He loves the refuge of his self-proclaimed libertarian status but it’s cover. That might be a good way to go at him. Listen to every position he states that’s not consistent with Libertarian values, especially positions that are consitent with the disgraced neo-con pnac agenda. Another way to go at it is feign being a Severin sycophant. He laps that shyt up. If you go that way, don’t break character. darth zinn, you’ve heard his show… how about it?
Ya but then he says he’s a “small l libertine” when cornered.
His Iraq war argument is popular around here, namely “I was for the war when it was about WMD but now I’m against it because its baby sitting.” He says we are police and we had a good warrent to search the country.
This is just Jay covering for US preventive war. As long as he can cling to this argument then Syria, Iran, etc are all on the table.
Lets see, he falls back on small “l” libertine mode when he’s forced to admit that government has legitimate purposes or that some taxes are good. Course he draws the line at police to protect his property and soldiers to kill Arabs.
If I got him that far I’d counter that in a democracy that line should be put to a vote and the results respected.
