Anyway, I’m tired of hearing that Democrats don’t want to spy on terrorists.
Democrats want the president (and everyone else) to follow the law. That’s it. Nothing more.
And if the President is using the law to only spy on terrorists, why haven’t we arrested a single one of them?

As usual, Mike and his points are easily refuted.
In the call Mike said that not a single terrorist has been arrested. Another example of him making a claim with no evidence.
According to the Dept. of Justice:

-Five terrorist cells in Buffalo, Detroit, Seattle, Portland (Oregon), and Northern Virginia have been broken up;
-401 individuals have been criminally charged in the United States in terrorism-related investigations;
Already, 212 individuals have been convicted or have pleaded guilty in the United States, including shoe-bomber
-Richard Reid and “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh; and
-Over 515 individuals linked to the September 11th investigation have been removed from the United States.
I think, as usual, Mike’s claim has been defeated.

while it seems that mike was having a bad day…the fact is that not one terrorist arrest or real plot has been foiled with the use of nsa spying or the patriot act.
every single one of your examples can be attributed to law enforcement capabilities that were in force prior to 9/11.
and I thank you for not bringing up the alledged plots against the library tower in los angeles and the brooklyn bridge blowtorch attack.
of course that patriot act has been instrumental in spying on quakers and grandmas…so we are safe.

but… it doesn’t help that I always provide full context to my calls - I let Severin have the last word, even here, on my blog…
the same can’t be said for the wingnuts, however…
and the facts are that not a single Democrat has ever said that we shouldn’t be spying on terrorists or seeking to intercept their calls. FISA allows us to do that whenever we want - as long as we get the court order within three days of the phone tap being put in place…
Bush thinks he’s above court oversight though… thinks he’s above the law… and sycophants like Severin give him cover by demonizing Democrats…

Isn’t is great knowing Chuck 2 visits your site every day to read your latest posts and challenge you on every point, both large and small?
The energy with which Bushiviks defend the fearless leader’s policies is admirable and shocking. It’s shocking considering their lock on government and the disastrous results of the last five years.
Severin is a smart bully; and he has good instincts about when to bully. He’s also a self-proclaimed Libertarian but that’s just cover. Its easier to do what he does when you don’t have to defend conservatism - He disavows conservative bias and then rants on about liberals. Read up on Libertarianism in Wikipedia and then listen to what comes out of his mouth. I think there’s an opening there… a big opening. Heh heh.
On his own, during the speech part of his show, he’s a wreck, babbling on, bloviating, pumping testosterone and making rambling circuitous arguments. It’s pathetic really.
But get him on the phone with callers and he’s in his element. He was trained as a lawyer but he couldn’t cut it. He employs his coercive argument making skills during call-in. If you want to engage Severin in an argument, lay off the personal because while he can dish it out, he can’t take it.
Instead, engage him on political issues. He fancies himself the smartest person in the room. You must first however, spend a lot of time listening to his show so you know what’s coming. Whether its worth it or not, is your call. Heh heh.
I read everything you post just like I read everything firedoglake, crooks and liars, and glen greenwald posts. Nobody does what you do.

How are the arrests and trials of Osama Bin Forgotten and the Anthrax mailer going for the Bush Justice Department? You know the 2 individuals that have actually carried out terrorist attacks on US soil. As usual, wingnut commentators and online trolls do not address the substance of the issue and just hide behind their strawman arguments.
IT IS NOT ABOUT WIRETAPPING….IT IS ABOUT DOING IT WITHIN CLEARLY ESTABLISHED LAW. Which the Bush administration has admittedly not done. Their argument that the current FISA arrangement does not work, does not absolve them of the obligation of attaining expanded authority to existing law which the Congress has granted them when requested after 9/11 and in the interim following the law as written.
No amount smear and after the fact legislation will change the fact that they broke the law as written and will be held accountable for their arrogant disregard of statutory and Constitutional law.
That was cool. Jay said you have “low breeding.” Who the hell talks like that? He did himself a favor by dumping your call because after stalling in the beginning over the number of questions he really couldn’t come up with any Democrats to quote.

That call was hilarious. Any time the host of a show can’t answer the question and then hangs up on you, you’ve won. Hands-down. He puts himself in the position of being the all-knowing radio host and you challenge him with a simple question and get discursive behavior in response, then that’s the end of that. His little hissy fit at the end doesn’t change it. He lost. Good going, Mike. You’re like a shit-seeking missile, my friend. Keep blowing away these idiotic viewpoints. I love it and I love your site!
