More Cheney… this one is sad

Cheney, evidently, doesn’t know the difference between Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.

Maybe I can help him.

Hey Dick:

We caught Saddam.  Osama’s still a threat.

Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11.  Osama did.

Saddam’s family wasn’t on friendly terms with George W. Bush.  Osama’s family?  Well, the bin Laden’s and the bush’s are like peas and carrots…

(to Tony Snow’s credit, he did correct Cheney about 5 minutes later on in the conversation)

Looks like the story has changed.

Now the supposed meeting of Atta and Iraqi intelligence has been “pretty well knocked down”. BUT

From a White House transcript of Meet The Press Dec. 2001

RUSSERT:…Do you still believe there is no evidence that Iraq was involved in September 11?

CHENEY: Well, what we now have that’s developed since you and I last talked, Tim, of course, was that report that’s been pretty well confirmed, that he did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April, several months before the attack.

Now, what the purpose of that was, what transpired between them, we simply don’t know at this point. But that’s clearly an avenue that we want to pursue.

Later he denied ever saying this:

In a June 17, 2004, CNBC interview with Gloria Borger, Borger and Cheney were discussing the disputed theory that Mohamed Atta met with Iraqi intelligence in Prague in April 2001.

CNBC’s GLORIA BORGER: Well, let’s get to Mohamed Atta for a minute because you mentioned him as well. You have said in the past that it was, quote, “pretty well confirmed.”

VP CHENEY: No, I never said that.

    BORGER: OK.

VP CHENEY: I never said that.

    BORGER: I think that is…

VP CHENEY: Absolutely not. What I said was the Czech intelligence service reported after 9/11 that Atta had been in Prague on April 9 of 2001, where he allegedly met with an Iraqi intelligence official. We have never been able to confirm that nor have we been able to knock it down, we just don’t know.

Maybe he’s finally figured it out. Only took him four and a half years.

    dailey…

who are you? lol… no worries about me quitting. I do this as much for myself as for y’all… I was doing it a long time before CAW, and I’m not sure I have it in me to stop - unless/until I get my own show… or a job that I think will make a more tangible difference…

that said, posts might slow down once law school starts… I’m hoping not, but realism is what it is…
