Alan Colmes takes on R. Stacey McCain

It is great watching what happens when the wingnuts are on a level playing field.
I cannot tell you how much it pains me to link to a FoxNews site… but this is Alans work and, for better or for worse, I think Alan really takes it on the chin more than he deserves. He might not be the most bitterly partisan democrat - certainly not as bitterly partisan a democrat as Hannity is a bitterly partisan Republican… but…
Alan is out there fighting for the good guys. He does what he can on whatever forum he has.
And if you dont already know it, his radio show is pretty damned good. Catch it from 10 PM to 1 AM EST. Its on Sirius 145 and XM 168.
One last thing before I go. My favorite shows have guests that take calls from the unwashed hordes. If you listen to talk radio, you will notice that whenever Hannity, OReilly, or Limbaugh have guests on, they ask all the (softball) questions. When Colmes has a guest, chances are better than not that the guest will answer listeners calls…
Come to think of it, I think there might be a parallel to blogs… righty blogs pretty much refuse comments. Righty talk radio pretty much refuses their audience the opportunity to question their guests. In fact… this happened today - Hannity announced that he would have Condi on later in the show. I told the screener that I wanted to suggest to Sean that he ask Condi a question about the MEK report you can find at Raw Story. The screenr told me Sean would not take listener requests and hung up on me. A later caller had a pretty cogent question about Iran and suggested to Sean that he pass the question along… He said he would, but didnt…

In a similar vein, on TV Hannity interviews sometimes interviews people without Colmes present. The best example I know of recently was his ‘exclusive’ talk with Katherine Harris when she announced she will spend her inheritance on her senate campaign.
Recently I saw Colmes take rightwing academia-nazi Horowitz to task for lying on H&C - using MediaMatters to back up the fact that Horowitz was lying. I agree with Mike that Colmes doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves. The Hannity show on FoxNews would only allow a soft spoken liberal who would not overshadow their “star” (if you could call Hannity a star) - and one can put money on that. If Colmes gets too vocal you can bet he’d be outta there. My feeling is that the guy is trying to do the right thing with a huge choke collar around his neck - it should be obvious to any thinking person what his diminished role is at FoxNews. There are times I wish he’d walk away from them but I also thinks he gets good points in as well. The problem is, does anyone watching from the rightwing world even entertain opposing commentary? If they watch FoxNews and especially Hannity, I doubt it.
