Score one for Wilkow
Published by Mike Stark April 19th, 2006 in Andrew WilkowWilkow was going to have curtis Sliwa of the Guardian Angels on his show later in the program. Curtis is trying to bring his school programs to Albany… Recently there have been some real ugly things going on in Albany Schools - and the trends aren’t turning around. We’ve even brought Jim Brown in to help out.
Anyway, Sliwa seems like a big stick sort of guy that doesn’t really care about much besides enforcement…
So… I thought I’d suggest that Andrew ask him about the role of systemic racism.
As much as the people on the Right, like Sliwa, talk about family values and such, I think it’s remarkable that they don’t have a lot of ideas for reconstructing the black communities they complain so much about. Instead they blather on about personal responsibility and consequences to bad choices.
Well, when the fathers in a community are imprisoned, who’s left to teach future fathers about personal responsibility? Who’s around to help with homework?
Anyway, Wilkow identified me… called me out and left the conversation hanging. I picked it up later on with Tony Snow (see next post).
So… I emailed Wilkow (we’re in touch by email frequently). I berated him for running from a fight, he told me he didn’t owe me anything, I said he might owe me a bloody lip since every call I make to him is meant to undermine his agenda, he emailed back that he’s not a violent person and, if the opportunity ever presented itself, that he’d teach me the basics of having my own radio show.
The offer is without value past it’s obvious (and surprising) generousness - because I’ll move to VA in August for law school - but in does force me to concede that Wilkow isn’t a dick. Nah… He might even be a decent guy.
Don’t take me the wrong way - his politics are god-awful, and I’ll continue to do what I can to show that… but it was nice to get the offer from him.

I feel sorry for Wilkow, who I think really wants to be part (if not “the undisputed leader”) of “the next generation of Talk Radio.” He really wants to give rational, unemotional arguments to counter Liberal “emotional arguments.”
Unfortunately, he isn’t intellectually up to the task. On Sunday, related to the Duke incident, he described an incident he witnessed as President of his Frat at the University of Florida, where a young woman set up several Frats on Campus. Possibly relevant, arguably less than appropriate for Easter Sunday, however, egregiously stupid in that he mentioned the young lady’s name, which constitutes defamation per se in NY. Possibly, truth is a defense, but it was dumb.
…Possibly, truth is a defense…
Wow, and this in a post demeaning Wilkow’s intellect.
