Warning:  this audio is long.  The file is about 3 meg.  Don’t sweat it if it takes a while longer to load than it usually does.

I took a different route with this call - his first hour was so riddled with lies and distortions that instead of trying to comment on them here in the text, for the most part, I did it podcast style by commenting in the audio.

Briefly, however, he claimed that all the phone record information was public information.  Interesting, that…  I wonder if I can access all the calls Karl Rove has made in the last year or so…

He claimed that Clinton did it too (probably true, but see the Wikipedia link in the Hannity post below to see how things are different).  What was particularly egregious about this, however, is that Limbaugh claimed it was physically impossible to monitor all these calls - just five minutes before he claimed that Clinton did it.

And of course, he explicitely stated, once again, that the Democrats are on Al Qaeda’s team.

What is this issue really all about?  It’s not phone records.  It’s really about tracking dissent.

BTW - I’d really like to know what you folks think of the more “traditional” podcast format.  Feel free to let me know in the comments.

I like this format .. with comments on the audio. You are right Mike ..Rush is so stupid..he tell his audience to look at CSI and shows like that..they are fiction..facts are not as important as solving the case in an hour. It is not easy to get phone records. I just retired from ATT and over the years I have known several people that have been fired for looking up phone records for personal use etc. This is not something the phone companies take lightly..the records are not public. Rush needs to get out of his bubble and use his 30 minutes of phone time per day to check out reality.

I’m down on Rush too, but he is in no bubble - he knows exactly what he is doing, projecting forth right-wing propaganda. He knows the buttons he is pushing. He has been copied. He is culpable.

I like the podcast format too, Mike, and your comments are good. I like the straight audio too, and I’m sure it is quicker. But in the podcast style you can break it down and control the argument: it brings it to another level.

This format might be a way to help break the talk show spell, too - I don’t think the average right-winger listener realizes that the “omnipotence” of talk show hosts is mostly editing illusion. By analysising and parsing Rush and interjecting your own punditry, you change the debate’s medium.

I like this format too… good job, mike!

I was bored today so, being a faithful Cingular wireless customer, I made some calls to some customer service folks.

Cingular is owned, mostly, by Bellsouth and AT&T. So I made two calls to two different cingular service reps and mad e one call to both Bellsouth and AT&T. The responses were interesting. I made sure they knew that I thought that what they were doing was illegal and that I was considering cancelling my service. They ALL assured me that they were not giving/selling my phone records to anyone including the NSA. That they wouldn’t do it withouth my permission.

I kept telling them it had been reported in USA Today and that I didn’t believe then when they said it wasn’t happening. The guy at AT&T eventually just hung up on me.

One of the ladies at Cingular was very upfront with me and I think she tried to be as honest and helpful as possible. I apreeciater that and understand that she is just doing her job but still…. it seems to me that all of the customer service folks were aware of this situation and had been informed to deny it since none of them were suprised by my question and had a statement ready to go each time I asked about it.

Of course this does make me feel like the crazy paranoid hippy. But how many questions can you ask before something happens to you one day? I’m not worried really since I don’t think we are at risk of the government coming to my house and “taking me away” but this does all make me feel a bit uncomfortable finding out that this could be about tracking dissent.

Missed this call, but I heard your call on heil hannity.

    Did hear another disturbing call.

A woman called in and attempted to compare the data mining to what happens at ralphs when you use your ralphs card.

It is a fact, that the majority of the dope fiend’s audience are retarded.

This was a good format. It’s easily abused as a form of analysis. Many wingnuts do this but usually it’s to interupt any point being made by the audio in order to insult the speaker. You commented on the substance being talked about, and did not merely insult the speaker. Well done actually.

As for the subject at hand, I’ve called shows up and asked them to make a show of support to our US Government.

“Do you [talk show host] ceed all protections to yourself of the 4th amendment and 14th amendment?”

Since these guys trust the government so much, let them publicly state they do not need the Constitution to protect them from the excesses of the Bush administration or any administration that follows. Now Rush will never say that, as that means prosecutors can then get any and all evidences by any means in relation to convicting Rush. Still, may as well bring it up now and again to show the audience that wingnuts have that “Do as I say, but don’t expect me to do it” mentality. They’re ok giving away my freedoms, but not so quick at giving up their own.

you mentioned the point of the wiretappings was for big brother to know when you call anarchists and the dem party-i read on salon.com that they were selling your phone records and coversations to corporations from them to use for marketing. this seems to make more sense since the bush administration rarely does anything that isn’t profitable to them. also, new format a lot better

I totally agree with Southern Son… everything… well said.
