Tammy Bruce: vile.

She was engaging in one of the conservatives favorite hobbies:  smearing a veteran.

This time it was Jack Murtha.

Rep. Murtha (no ideological friend of mine - he’s much to conservative and hawkish for my taste) talked yesterday about the massacre that took place in Haditha, Iraq last November.

Bruce - a Pajama’s Media contributor - took issue with Murtha speaking uncomfortable truths, and waged a one woman smear campaign against him by lying a whole bunch.

Not the first time Bruce has gone over the line.  In 1998, she blame Ennis cosby’s mother for putting him in harms way and getting him killed.  She called Camille Cosby crazy and disturbed.  Why?  Because Cosby had the nerve to suggest that American racism might have had something to do with her son’s murder…

This woman is disgraceful.  And very difficult to listen to.  She’s Michael Savage on steroids.

Anyway - this is another large file - I included a lot of commentary in it.

That is disgusting, she should be kicked off the air.

  3. 3 Liz

This woman is the absolute pits!!! She could not pour piss out of a boot if the directions were on the heel. I am the mother of a MARINE serving in the Al Anbar province. Our MARINES are more than a little stressed out. Check out the story with pictures. There was a 5 month old baby and several toddlers plus an 80 year old man shot in his bed!!! They were all killed inside their homes. Murtha knows what he is talking about and not once did he call our MARINES “cold blooded killers”.

what town ? whay city ? in America ? did you find this neo-con fascist corp unAmerican war whore ? GOD , do not tell me this Orwellian blind “patriotic” thought is nationaly syndicated ! sorry for being over the top but THIS one needs a number put with the name .

  5. 5 Mike Stark

she’s national. Syndicated by the TalkRadioNetwork.

Shrill 2 bit whore indeed. Although I really do doubt that anybody would even pay one bit for her.
We are in deep shit, Mike. What with the lowering of standards for mental health, those with criminal records and drug/alcohol abusers to enter the service, it will only decline from this point. We will see more of this. I teach in a residential school, and about 5 years ago, enrollment in the programs nation-wide were getting low. They lowered the standards for admission. Almost immediately the problems started, and we started losing the good kids because of the influx of kids with mh and other problems that were formerly not allowed to be admitted.
You are doing a great thing here. Kudos.

We’re with you for the long-haul Mike. Good work!

mike, you should be better than that “2 bit whore” comment, unless you actually know the woman’s sexual activities (only thing i read is that she is gay). shouldn’t stoop to derogatory sexist name calling just cause of her actions. you are trying to expose her inadequecies, not your own.

    john x:

I was speaking in my capacity as a Marine… we have an instinctive capacity for sensing these things.

More seriously, I’m a blogger - with a personality and all the credits and debits that come with it.

I think this woman is a big ol’ festering sore on humanity. Alternatively, I could call her a two-bit whore… (though a legit argument could be made that I’m insulting two-bit whores - and for that i’d be genuinely sorry)…

  10. 10 john x

hey, she isn’t a nice person on the radio. an argument can be made for ignorance even. but you won’t get me to agree that calling this woman a whore cause she hung up on you is not cool. it’s reducing your reactions to sexism. it’s kind of like how when michelle malkin does something that ticks people off people go off on derogatory statements about her race (slanty eyed blah blah) stuff like that. it is hypocritical of being liberal. you don’t like what she did so you attack her as a woman. attack her actions and her ideas. it enhances your stance. attacking her as a woman by calling her a “2 bit whore” expresses ignorance on your end.

  11. 11 Mike Stark

you’d have to believe that I was truly a sexist to make that argument.

that’s be seizing on a single aphorism, colloquialism, metaphor - whatever you want to call it - to paint me as something my entire body of work contradicts.

further - the metaphor is particularly relevant in this case. She once headed up NOW in California. She’s had progressive creds in her past, but she whored them for two bits by embracing the right wing bs.

John X, I don’t know if you are criticizing Mike to be demoralizing or helpful, but it is enough. Two good diary/calls in a row, and you are bitching on both.

How about submitting YOUR call to a wingnut talkshow, and we will critique YOU. Until then your criticism quota is about done.

As much as I appreciate being told what to say by other commentators, I will have to decline respect your quota. Every comment on this blog doesn’t have to agree with mikes actions. If you read my comments, you will know i give mike many respectful comments when i agree with him. However, I don’t do this arbitrarily cause I am an independent thinker. I don’t always agree with him (just much of the time).
I can offer my critisisms just like anyone else as long as I follow the rules of this blog, which I respectfully do. Just like you offer your criticism of me. There is nothing in the rules that says i have to make phone calls in order to paticipate in the comments or even certain types of comments.
As for YOUR criticism of me. I’m not demoralizing anyone. If this is a liberal blog, I would expect for the owners to behave differently and more intelligently than conservative blogs. So i will always remind people when i see their passion overshadowing their logic because of personal attacks. It is common tactics of conservatives to take things away from logic and bring it to a personal illogical attack on character. Thus my criticism when i see liberals fall into that trap.

I wish i was articulate enough to explain my position to you without making you feel personally attacked. I will try one last time and leave it alone. I agree with you on Tammy all the way up to the part where you got personal and made a the sexist statement. From the little i read at wikipedia and her home page she is a contradiction. A liberal democrat who votes republican and backs conservative talking points.
However, Rush Limbaugh a month or so ago got criticised on many liberal blogs including Media Matters for referring to the Duke Lacrosse rape victim as a “Ho”. He did this without knowing anything of the personal affairs of this woman. He only knew where he stood on the case, thus anyone else was open to personal sexist attacks. I would expect this from Rush, a conservative with only a high school education. But you can’t make sexist comments publically and not expect criticism for being sexist. If it’s not ok for Rush to say it then it shouldn’t be ok for liberal bloggers to say it just cause they don’t agree with a person. We have to hold ourselves to higher standards. Otherwise we will continue to be criticized for being liberal hypocrits. Ok i’m done. Either you get it or you don’t. I still support the blog and enjoy your postings. I’m on to the next post

i dont think mike was being sexist. if it had been sexist, the insult wouldve stemmed from the fact that she was a woman (as rush’s did, he seemed to be saying women’s place is as sex objects, and therefore, theres nothing wrong with the duke case, as well as i feel a visceral revulsion to people criticizing people for being victims, like conservatives’ treatment of katrina victims), rather than stemming from the fact that shes an awful person, and a massacre-apologist as well. any sort of insult would be a “personal attack”, so you dont need to be sexist to get away from the issues. i think its appropriate here, because it was brief (ie not the main point), and seemed to have the purpose of expressing mike’s distaste for the woman. its a more eloquent way of saying “i dont like tammy bruce” (which might be inappropriate if he hadnt layed out the reasons why–none of which had to do with the fact that shes a woman– just prior). anyways, its silly to over-analyze like im doing.

  16. 16 Mike Stark

    OK John…

I’m cool with where you are coming from. I certainly didn’t feel personally attacked in any substantive way. I just disagree… I think it requires more than one turn of a phrase to put the label of sexist (or, for that matter, any label at all) on a person.

anyway… evenif you are right, if anyone ever deserved to be the target of a sexist statement, it’d be Tammy (and I’m still not conceding that I was being sexist - I still see it as a term that is so cliche as to be devoid of its literal meaning)

    best,
    M

    Mike,

I was listening to Bruce when you called and wrote that I was glad to hear at least one caller defend Murtha. I didn’t know it was you but I will make the link now.

    Steve J.

  18. 18 Steve J.

Bruce wasn’t the only one to smear. Judge Andrew Napolitano of Brian and the Judge openly questioned Murtha’s sanity and Steve Malzberg, subbing for Slots Bennett, also smeared Murtha.

  19. 19 Frank

Yes, I’m sure most two-bit whores are insulted that you put Tammy in their camp. But enough with the two-bit whore discussion!

Tammy did a great job by keeping the ball on your side of the net. It’s a sales tactic that can be used as a cudgel in different contexts, and in this one, where she’s totally sociopathic in her argument, it works nicely. Hmmm, how to counter this…

Now, I’m sure that anyone with reason and a degree of sincerity wall appalled by her discourse and the way she treated you. Unfortunately, few people of reason and sincerity are probably listening to her show in the first place.

Does this mean we stop trying to confront Tammy and reach her audience? I don’t think so…

Now coherent message or thought to my post here. Just wondering aloud…

  20. 20 odanny

First off, Tammy is a two bit whore for this administration, and her ruminating on what a “Marine is”, and “how it does not work that way, you EARN it” is the height of hypocrisy! Is she saying that if you wore the uniform you are only allowed to ascribe to one school of thought? How condescending, further worsened by this shrill, twisted right wing dancing monkey knowing nothing at all about what its like to wear a uniform in the first place!

Yes, she is sickening, yes she is a blight to humanity, yes, those advertisers who advertise on her show are the ones who need to be brought to bear for her sickening and vile rants against decency.

I do know that there is a group called PTC (Parents Television Council) that has had some success in the past targeting advertisers in changing the way some of these shows conduct themselves (they were particularly vigilant against the WWF, a raunchy show that many young children watch) and by putting pressure on the advertisers they got them to clean up their act.

I’m not sure if this shrill sockpuppet warrants such an effort but she certainly is a disgusting, loudmouthed, uninformed noisemaker who needs confronted

  21. 21 bacci40

    guess nobody gets tammy’s act

she started off on the air on kfi as a openly gay lib to moderate

she had trouble gaining an audience so she started pulling towards right of center and then said something heinous about the death of bill cosby’s son that got her booted off the air

if she attempted to have a show as a lib, she wouldnt get anywhere…so she goes out of her way to be a wingnut

its rather sad…she no longer has her old friends and those she thinks of as friends would love to see her burned at the stake as a dyke.

That’s interesting! Do you have any links?

    Thanx!

“There is SO MUCH slime in the underbelly of talk radio…”
This was in your comments, Mike, and I couldn’t agree more. 2-bit whore or not, this is the kinda crap that makes people pull their hair out!

Keep up the good work, my work schedule is all twisted right now, but I’m gonna try and get you some audio of “Keith and Gail in the Morning”, my local [KCOL AM 600] right wing shills. It’s the best of the “minor leaguers”; and kinda the voice of the indigent rural conservatism here in northern Colorado.
