Update before I go
Published by Mike Stark June 10th, 2006 in UncategorizedI’ll probably try to write more about what went on out here when I get home (what I can write, anyway… you know the Vegas rules…)
But before then, I thought you might enjoy these tasty snacks…
- RaginGirl, who was to be my videographer for the Byron York interview, caught up with me yesterday afternoon. She mentioned to me that she saw York and brought up the possibility of another interview on ground he would consider friendlier… Perhaps Iraq??? York told her it was a possibility.
So I ran into him a while later, but by that time I had posted my piece about our first rendezvous. And Atrios had linked to it.
But I approached him anyway. After all, he’s written plenty about us Saddam loving crazed moonbats in his time… a good-humored jab about paste is pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things.
Eh… not quite. When I told him that I had talked to RaginGirl, he remembered the conversation, but quite imperiously waved me away saying “I think not.”
- Tonight Harry Reid took the stage. Gave a great speech and told us he was going to demand total back-up for every piece of evidence the administration uses to justify beating a war-path to Iraq. It brought the house down. But you can see that on the CSPAN broadcast.
What you won’t see is what happened as he came off the stage. I approached his exit path and ended up standing about 10 feet from him when I said, loudly enough to be sure he heard it, “Cut Holy Joe loose, Harry. He’s deadweight on our Party.”
Well, Harry is no coward. He continued on his exit path which took him right by me. Of course he was shaking hands on his way out. He shook my hand, leaned into me and said, “I heard what you said.”
I’m not wetting my pants with glee – I mean, his statement was as non-committal as you can get. But… he heard it from at least one person while he was here. And he acknowledged it. Classy. And nice.

Good on both of y’all.
You for making the point, and him for acknowledging it.
That’s all he can reasonably do right now, but when Joe bolts the Dems, I fully expect to see him dropped from his committee assignments.
Let the Republicans spare him a seat if they’re so inclined. When someone refuses to dance with me, I say it’s time to stop buying him drinks.
I was also in Vegas for the Yearly Kos and thoroughly enjoyed the keynote tonight by Sen. Reid. I even got it on recording (courtesy of evoca.com). The audio is available at my Evoca site
Please feel free to use this recording (either by link or by embedding the HTML from Evoca.com) in your own posting or blog. It was a great night and I would love to share it with as many bloggers as possible. Our voices are being heard!
Wish I had won at a tourney table or two. The most I did was a few nickle slots that rewarded me with an even payout. hahahaha.
Safe travels!
andrew.
How exactly does Ned Lamont benefit the Democratic Party more than Joe Lieberman? Or the state of Connecticuit for that matter? You folks need more quasi-conservative members if you want to gain a majority. That doesn’t mean pro-war, but you do need a broader spectrum of politicians to amass a broader spectrum of supporters. Joe votes with the Dems on the big issues; it’s unwise to get so caught up in Liberal fervor that you ignore political “strategery.”
“Quasi-conservative”, is that what you’re calling ol’ Joe?
I’m sure he’d be highly flattered.
If you want a quasi-conservative, there’s always 2/3s of the current Republican leadership to choose from.
Give me a Democrat who’s proud to be a Democrat-conservative, moderate or liberal.
Holy Joe is reaping as he has sown. The thistles in his knickers are grown by his own hand.
“You folks”… advice from someone who sounds like he is neither progressive nor a Democrat.
Reminds me of Bill Kristol talking on Fox News Sunday where he was giving Democrats “advice” on how to win in 2006:
“If Democrats come out completely against this war, they will certainly lose.” (Not an exact quote, but his statement was something to this effect.) Really? So as a neo-conservative who has no interest in seeing the Democrats obtain majority status, your recommendation to the Democrats is to campaign on a platform of being 100% in support of the Iraq war? What great advice!
Craig, I know.
It’s like, “wow, I didn’t know I looked that young and naive. Must be that new moisturizer.”
“I heard you” from a politician means, i heard a few words coming out of your mouth but i will do what i want. Now send in a check.
