I called her to talk about Iraq.  Always the master manipulator (since she can’t win on the merits), this is another good example of wingnut microphone management.

I hope I got a coupla shots in, but I’m thinking that anyone that listens to this caustic brew is probably beyond redemption…

The conversation was about Iraq.  I play softball on a local team and we needed some players the other night, so my team captain brought a new guy with him.  Turns out the guy had just gotten back from Tikrit where he drove fuel trucks for the Army.  I asked him what he thought of hte war.  He told me that it was good we went in (I didn’t try to change his mind), but now that we’ve dispelled the WMD threat and deposed saddam Hussein, we’ve no longer got any reason to be there.

I’m not sure if can be said anymore efficiently.  Iraq is no longer a threat, we should get out.

This is another call with ruuning comments - I’m pretty much forced into that by Bruce.

That woman is a shrieking idiot, who on earth gave her a radio show?

Yes, anyone listening to her is brain dead and needs to be disconnected from life support.

and that’s exactly why you should never ass kiss these propogandists. the second you she gets a chance she tries to insault you, attack you and outshout you. she even has to put words in your mouth to try to make a ignorant point of her own. but you made her look like she lost it. i would like to her the convo again without the commentary. you should start posting 2 versions. one with commentary and one without.

mike, i agree with most of what you say, but i disagree that our presence/occupation is the reason for all the violence. there is serious sectarian violence that has nothing to do with us. there’s ethnic death squads carrying out executions on both sides. thats the only reason i hesitate to say we should pull out. but, of course, the question is, does our presence make the situation worse, and i think it probably does, as we are supporting the majority faction against the minority. however, our presence creates at least some limits.

about tammy bruce’s final point- the reason the insurgents target americans is that we are in iraq. al qaeda is a very small fraction of the insurgency, and i think they’re the only fraction that would continue being our enemy if we left (though we may have spread enough anti-american feelings through various atrocities for the rest to hate us too). either way, pulling out of iraq helps the war on terror, through putting limited resources where they belong (or saving them in case of unexpected military actions), and through lessening anti-american thought in iraq.

by tammy’s logic we should invade anywhere that would fight against invasion. if we start a war with, say, mexico, and they resist, arent the mexican’s the enemy? so theres only two options to make them stop being our enemy, pull out, or completely conquer mexico, until there is no resistance (and palestine kind of makes me think thats a hard thing to accomplish). the point is, our invasion of iraq created new enemies.

i hesitate to use that example, because i dont think iraq is quite that simple, and the insurgents dont seem to be merely fighting for freedom, they seem to be fighting for internal power.

I can’t remember the subject I called this lady about, but I recall her talking about her bra. Apparently she has large breasts and had difficulty finding the right undergarment. Riveting talk radio that day.

The talking point “Fight them over there, not over here” is shut down by saying “Oh, say a dead Iraqi child is more acceptable than a dead US child.” Now, I’ll be honest that I’ll be more concerned about a dead US child. Out of sight, out of mind is a reality of politics and government. Still, no talk show host will say dead Iraqi children is a better option, so that shuts them down.

The military is meant to fight when no other option is available, however the military is LOUSY as an anti-terrorist tool. It worked great in Afghanistan as it was a base of operations, and the government itself was providing protection. At a point, you need a police force to take care of terrorists. The military is lousy in local police actions. Iraqis are better placed to weed out terrorist cells in their cities as they know the language, people, locations, etc. What does LCpl Jones from Dallas, TX know about the neighborhood in Tikrit? He doesn’t. He has a short time to learn the ropes and is a Stranger in a Strange Land, but a stranger with a gun and backed by others with guns.

You made a good point, attracting attacks of convenience is not fighting terrorism. That’s like capturing criminals by leaving unlocked cars in the parking lot. You provide an easy target, then you create a criminal that only attacks easy targets. Like it or not, our military members are not animals so we do not attack willy nilly. Kill one of ours, we’re not gonna murder 100 random Iraqis (Haditha incident not withstanding). That makes us more vunerable as a military presence. The ones that attack our troops will likely never have stared an evil eye at a US Citizen had we never been in Iraq.

I always thought it was sick to send people to die “over there”. The idea that somehow sending our troops to die in Iraq was better for the country then having them target and find terrorists is ludicrous.

    Well said Charles.

Mike, I haven’t checked in here in a few weeks but after listening to the Tammy Bruce clip I want you to know that I really like the added commentary that you are dropping into the audio. Very informative commentary, and educational as well.

Keep up the great work, and keep up the added commentary.

    The President said it best:

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

This much we pledge—and more. ”

It’s the and more part that gets me.

You are a moron, and you’re, like, WAY underestimating Tammy’s bullshit detector, dudeness. That’s okay, I was a stupid lefty when I was your age.
