Courage Campaign
Published by Mike Stark June 22nd, 2006 in UncategorizedI promise not to do this too often. This is a blog about talk radio and wingnuts and will remain wingnut centric, but after visiting the Courage Campaign and learning what they are up to, I blog-rolled them.

Why am I pumped for this particular group?
Mostly it is because I think the next growth area of the left-leaning blogosphere will be at the local level. In addition, I think it is incredibly important for deep blue states like California and New York to get their shit together. I’m in New York and I’ve kept half an eye on what is going on in California. Our state’s problems are similar. The democratic apparatus in each of the states is the default power center (in NY we’ve got a Republican Senate and Governor, but in both cases, they are very bluish-purple and most of the true power lies in the Democratic Assembly… year after year, the Assembly gets what it wants.)
Anyway, in both states, the democratic party has become an establishment back-scratching operation in need of some serious gate crashing. We need good people elected to clean up the messes left behind by way too many years of backroom deals, patronage and fanny-patting.
You see, as a nation, we need guiding lights. We need the bluest states to set an example for the red states. If NY and California fail with “democrats” at the helm, the right will use the example to bludgeon us ruthlessly. It’s time we took the quotation marks off the “democrats”. Crash the gates, fix the states.

Mike-New York and California are the examples? Look at downtown Albany. Untold millions spent on rehabing the AE Smith building over 7 years yet one block away from this building where tens of thousands of people mearby work daily, privately owned buildings sit boarded up and decaying. NY has suffered through decades of purple leadership to the benefit of red states who know how to roll out the red carpet. When I lived in Savannah, GA I paid less than $2k/year in property taxes. Here, for the same value house, $6k. And I’m supposed to be impressed that the pols have duked it out late this session to give me a $300 rebate check later this year?! When you move to VA, you’ll understand.
James: That was my point - the establishment Dems have totally fucked this place to pieces. We need to crash the gates and clean up the mess, so that we can be a beacon for the rest of the nation.
