Bastards never met a war they didn’t want to have
Published by Mike Stark July 18th, 2006 in UncategorizedThey probably still regret that we never blew up Russia… This is Gibson. I call him a republican schill because there is just no fucking balance here.
In fact, in the entire media, the calmer heads have remained unheard from as far as I can tell. Where are the people pointing out that once again, Howard Dean was right. That under Democrats, peace has been sustained in the Middle East. Under Republicans, each and every administration since Nixon (at least - I don’t know any history further back than that) has watched a war unfold while they remained totally disengaged.
Gibson didn’t want to let me finish - instead, he shot me. That’s typical right wing bullshit. Can’t win the battle of ideas? Steal votes. Shout louder. Slime your opponent with lies, innuendo and slanders. Or cut their mic and hang up on them…
BTW, as a bonus, we have the call from the Envoy to the US from Lebanon. He was actually making a bit of sense.
Another question: when Israel takes and jails prisoners, it’s called taking prisoners. When Hezbollah does it, it’s called “kidnapping”. If there is a war going on, isn’t it appropriate to take military prisoners? I could see calling it kidnapping if it was a four year old kid that got snatched - but they took soldiers… Why is the media narrative constructed using terms ultra-favorable to Israel?
Don’t get me wrong either… I’m no Hezbollah, Hamas or even Palestinian supporter. I’m simply pointing out that if you are going to be an honest broker (or reporter), word choice matters.
That said, I haven’t revealed my biases.
I think the Middle East situation is incredibly difficult. As far as I can tell, Israel was created out of nothing and people lost their land in order to accomodate western guilt after the 2nd World War. (fell free to correct me if I get any of this wrong). As a country carved out of other people’s lands, Israel is, by its very existence, a grave affront - an injustice - to many millions of people that lived there pre-1948. Especially since it is a quasi-theocratic state - it’s laws are based on the Torah - Muslims/Palestinians that lived there (and in the region) feel a profound anger.
Israel isn’t going anywhere though. They want peace. They deserve peace.
Unfortunately, this has been turned into a question of justice. On both sides, justice seems to be the highest ideal. Pride follows closely behind.
What we really need is for cooler heads to realize that there can be no justice at this point. And there is no room for pride. There are higher ideals to be pursued. The ideals of life and limb, for starters.
Until they reach that leaping off point, I fear there just won’t be any peace in the Middle East.

1. The millions of refugees that were created after Israel was formed were urged to leave– by the muslim nations– so that they could arrive with the forces that were going to take back Israel. Israel did not create these refugees in the first place, although they did close their borders and keep them out.
2. Hezbollah did kidnap Israeli soldiers. The kidnappings came before Israel had ever entered Lebanon (at this point all the fighting was in the south in the Gaza Strip).
3. Israel has the right to defend itself. Hezbollah is not the government of Lebanon and does not have the right to amass weapons along the border with the sole purpose of attacking a sovereign nation.
4. Israel is a democratic state in all senses of the term, especially when compared to the surrounding nations.
I had a rant but i decided to delete it and stick to these few factoids.
One thing i would like to add though is one’s entire perspective is based on whether they believe Israel has the right to exist. If no, then the actions of the muslim world are justified. If yes, Israel’s actions are justified.
Bastards never met a war they didn’t want to have (fought on their behalf)
War is not the solution I think should be the conclusion here. In fact, war is never the solution. Tell that to Kristol though…
The worst thing for the world to do is offer any help in creating violence.
I usually back Israel in these situations. You can’t look at a map of the Mid-East and think for a second Israel is encroaching on the Muslim nations. All actions committed against it have been acts of war (kidnapping, bombing of civilian areas, etc.)
Granted, by destroying Gaza and Lebanon infrastructure as opposed to limited targeting of Hamas and Hezbollah headquaters and assets, Israel enrages the general populations of those countries. By acting “nice” to the people and beating the crap out of the military, Israel can propagandize that into a larger victory.
Of course, I doubt Hamas (Sunni) and Hezbollah (Shiite) are in cohouts. It seems Lebanon was taking advantage of an earlier situation. Still, Israel should have reacted a bit nicer to Gaza, but a reaction is still justified.
If my neighbor were to kill my brother in a vicious fight. I would never be able to forget or forgive. I would spend the rest of my life figuring out how to exact revenge against him and his family.
That being said, there will NEVER be peace between the Israel and Palestine. Not until one race completely destroys the other.
I only comment because I’ve been reading as a result of all this insanity.
after WWI the Ottoman empire was carved up into “mandates” controled by the French and British. Jews had been colonizing what became the Palestine Mandate since before the turn of the century. Much of this involved legitimate land purchases by communes and individuals. The point is that Jews had been there before the ottoman empire was dismantled and well before the UN carved up the palestinian mandate effectively creating Israel. The UN partitioned it into Arab/Jewish land because the conflict had existed well before Isreal was created out of nothing.
Although it probably didnt help that the partition was skewed slightly in favor of the Jews and didnt reflect the true population break up of arab/jew. Not to mention that in the 1948 war Israel ended up taking a lot more land than originally partitioned to them.
Great job on your call. Keep up the good work!
Dear Bobby McGee,
You said “In fact, war is never the solution. Tell that to Kristol though…”. What an inane statement! War, sometimes is the only solution. The only solution to the genocide of the Jews by the Nazis was war. And thank god someone realized that war was the solution before every Jew in the world was murdered. It is sad, but sometimes the only way to assure peace/freedom is through war.
-Cheers
Isnt’ a shill someone who pretends to be for one side but seems to be “convninced” by the other side? Like Joe Lieberman?
I’m not sure there is a military solution here that we can live with. The Israelis, masters of war of maneuver, have to dig fanatics out of bunkers. The bombing wasn’t “disproportionate” it was “ineffective.” This could end badly and we have not given Israel any “out.” I don’t like it … at all.
“disproportionate” isn’t a word i would use, “Murder” Is.
From what i can see, The israeli’s are quite simply attacking civilians in the Lebanon, indiscriminate bombing raids are killing everyday men women and children.
I hate to think would happen if this happenned in the west.
The US, and Israel are looking for any excuse to get at Iran and Syria ( after all, it’s these who are supplying Hizbollah, producing nuclear weapons and putting the peace of the world at risk………….arn’t they?????
It’s not important then, that today, US planes loaded with lasar guided bombs are planning to re-fuel in Britain, en route to israel….. smacks a little doesn’t it?.
Come on Guys, we all know who are pulling the strings here.
Hizbollah kidnapped a couple of soldiers to exchange for the release of some of their own prisoners held in Israel.
This was the perfect excuse for Israel and the US to go to town on the little people and force the issue with Iran and Syria.
Anyone that believes Israel’s actions are justified is insane. Anyone who believes the US are for peace and equality are completely brainwashed by airbrushed news reports and lying bastards like bush and co.
Im not of any religious persuasion and believe all people are equal. These so called terrorists are freedom fighters, fighting in their own countries for their own countries. They have every right to. The bullies of the west are killing innocent people everyday in iraq, afghanistan,Gaza and now lebanon. Israel is the US’ baby state in the middle east it suited them perfectly to put them there afetr WW2 and supply them with weapons.
Robert Fisk the war correspondent living in Beruit wrote an article last week saying he can see the US markings on the missiles fired by Israel. I could go on forever but I’ll probably bore you all so I’ll conclude with this;
The US under republicans are war mongering bastards
Hitler once said;
‘it is easier to fool the people with a big lie than it is to fool them with a small lie’
George W(thick as pigshit) Bush has lied since day one stealing votes and following up with his so called war on terror.
Check out loosechange911.com for an interesting take on the trade tower (justification for war and terror of their own)
I have so much sympathy for the innocent victims of this collective group of bastards high ideals, and as someone said in this blog ‘there is no moral high ground when innocents are killed.’
What’s all the discussion about missile technology about anyway don’t you know the cost of one of fucking things could feed and house many refugees for a long time.
