Fun with Rush
Published by Mike Stark July 27th, 2006 in Rush Limbaugh, UncategorizedI’ve been having a helluva time getting through to him lately - the screener just keeps denying me access. Guess that comment about sex tourism in the Dominican Republic didn’t win me any fans at the EIB Network.
I guess I’m a slow learner.

Wow….he sounded reeeeeally rattled. Seriously - are you working with him just for laughs?
ROFL the Viagra thing slipped in to the convo was funny. The analogy was a good one though. Could haved used any drug to make your point. He didn’t quite get that. ROFL. I love to see this kind of puffed up personality get a pin prick once in awhile.
Yer funny. Good one.
He sounded hysterical…lol. Oxycontin would have been a good one to use, too, especially since he WAS taking those by the 100’s.
Hahahaha!! Hysterical!
On a seirous note, I would’ve mentioned a few key things
-The cost of living has gone up, so you need to pay workers more to compensate. The prices of gas has gone up more than 100% since the last minimum wage increase
-Our economy needs people to work cheap paying jobs. The lower tier is holding the rest of our economy up. The least we could do is pay them a living. wage.
-Last time the Federal Government increased the minimum wage, low income employment went way up; 11 million new low paying jobs!
-The states that have raised the minimum wage above the Fed level have experienced a faster rate of job creation than the states that haven’t
Great job once again Mike. I agree that Oxycontin would have been a good one but Viagra was too. Too bad Rush filibusters so much. I guess that’s what these fuck faces do when they want to shut up a caller like you.
greyfox - your points are good, but Rush controls the mike and he never ever would let Mike get more than one sentence out…as soon as he realizes Mike is on the “other side” he interrupts and cuts the caller off.
Too bad he didn’t keep you on the line. He said that “the minimum wage is a hidden tax on business”. Since the minimum wage is not a living wage, and people earning the minimum wage are probably eligible for additional government services (food stamps, medicaid, liheap, etc.): does he prefer increased income taxes to pay for these programs, or would he prefer an increased minimum wage, to lift these people out of poverty, so they could pay for these things themselves. On one side he is saying there shouldn’t be an increase in the minimum wage ( or even be a minimum wage ), and on the other side he complains about higher income tax rates that are necessary to pay for the government services that these low wage workers need, but cannot afford.
In regards to his mention of “balance” in the wage arena:
Let’s just look at how the wages of CEO’s etc. have grown in comparison to the wages of hourly workers. There is nothing balanced about the massive increase in compensation for upper management personnel, while the wages of hourly workers have been stagnant (actually decreasing in real dollar terms over the last 5 years of economic recovery and “full employment”).
Mike,
Way to get a rise out of Rush.
Wait, never mind that..

You increase the minimum wage then the price on everthing goes up and the people are poor again.
How does that help anyone?
Ok it might help the goverment. Higher wages means more income taxes and all the other taxes.
Higher prices means more sales tax. The only winner is goverment!!
Smilie,
No doubt that the increase in wages will be passed on in the price of goods. I imagine that the huge increases in executive salaries over thae last decade or so have already been passed on . Even with that, corporate profits are at record levels. When does the employee at the bottom of the salary scale get his benefit? Higher wages don’t necessarily translate to higher income taxes, because income tax brackets are indexed to inflation. Only if the wages increased faster than the indexing, would greater revenue (in real dollar terms) be raised. Since the minimum wage has not been increased in over 9 years, I think minimum wage workers have quite a bit of ground to make up before they will be earning what they did nine years ago in real dollar terms.
If you can’t afford to increase the minimum wage when the economy is growing and we are at or near “full employment”, when can you “afford” it?
Not to rain on the parade, but if you get through to Rush and have an opportunity to call him to the carpet on his corporate whoring to keep the working class poor, how does using that argument by taking a personal swipe at Flushie address the issue that the Repugs. vote down minimum wage increases? It seems like a wasted opportunity when you could have discussed an important issue.
Also, the GOP said today that they are planning on voting in a minimum wage increase before the politicking heats up. Strictly a ploy to keep from losing their voters, who must be so incredibly clueless to think that they give a damn about their electorate in this transparently phony attempt to show they care.
“You increase the minimum wage then the price on everthing goes up and the people are poor again.”
Partially true. The problem,in my humble opinion,is that the COL has far outstripped the minimum wage. It is a minimum for a reason, yes?
SImple math here. If the COL is far greater than the minimum wage, raising the minimum won’t affect anything since the COL is going to do as it has constantly done in the past. Which is to say,go through the roof. The only logical way to control this inflated COL is to deal with it,not necessarily the minimum wage.
However, the biggest part of the problem(again,IMO) is speculation in the market. Instead of fair speculation on commodities and such, they are always underestimated. Doing that makes the market, and speculators a tidy profit. The costs of goods go up though, because of the false shortage created by underestimation. The only way to stop this would be to regulate market speculation ability,or in other words, tie those bastards down and keep them away from those rubber pencils.
Of course, that would seem to be a socialist concept to many Republicans. And they may well be right on soem levels. However, what we have now is no more than a fuedalist bunch of nonsense, where the man on the bottom takes the penis. Without some sort of fairness doctrine in effect to stop this, all you eventually will have is “haves” and “have-nots”. No middle class at all, which IMO would be TERRIBLE for our country and economy. Of course the “haves” wouldn’t mind it. Cheap labor right here at home? Hello?
And that’s nothing to do with wealth redistribution. Nobody is going to be taking anything from anyone. People will still earn their keep themselves. But the market, and the COL will be better under control at least. Then you might not need so many of those dreaded “entitlement programs” that are harped on so much.
Finally! (Just kiddin’). That was funny. I didn’t know if that was you, ‘cuz you said a loyal listener, so I checked it out. The only thing is, he thought it was funny too! He was cracking up when you said it; it was funny. So, hey, some people may get down on ya for making a joke and not, I guess you’d call it, sticking it to him, but I’m not. If nothing else it added to the entertainment value by being slightly shocking to alot of his listeners. Plus, I get it about not wanting to piss people off so they won’t let you on. Well, you didn’t piss Rush off- he said he loves you, LOL!
Here’s my bit, I like the concept of a minimum wage, but it has to be at the state level. Five dollars an hour in Sherman, Texas is easier to live with than 8 dollars an hour in San Diego, California.
By having a Fedearl minimum wage, it is arbitrary. It’s not enough in high COL areas and too much in low COL areas. By letting states decide, as the above poster shows, you get states that can generate growth but balanced with businesses going to other states with potentially lower profits.
What must happen is the US Government regulating enough to discourage outsourcing. Another issue, of course.
Charles….nice post.
Minimum wage increase is a tax. OMG. People actually believe this guy. I’m sorry for some of the brains of America.
