Apologies
Published by Mike Stark July 31st, 2006 in UncategorizedI haven’t posted today. Ugh. I tried calling Brian Kilmeade this morning, but his screener’s learned a thing or two, I guess. I used to have no problem at all getting through the girl (they say she’s an intern), but they must’ve sat her down and made her listen to my voice over and over again. I’ve got to get that voice changer thingy…
Anyway, after that i just got distracted. I acquired some HUGE posterboards from a gas station dumpster and decided to do some freeway blogging in support of John Sweeney’s opponent, Kristen Gillibrand. So I paineted much of the day then scouted placement sites.
Then I came home and read Jeff Wells’ blog, where I found this. That was it for me today… It just took all the wind out of my sails. You read someting like that and, well, I feel like I’d rather slam my dick in a car door than argue with Rusty Humphries tonight…
So tune in tomorrow.
(PS - Excellent news is this: I don’t have to pay hosting fees anymore. From now on my only expenses will be my phone bill, internet access and other incidentals (Freedom Concert trips, etc). So the fundraising posts will be much less frequent.)

That’s awesome about the pro-Gillibrand ads! Can’t wait to see them!
Personally, I think she’s a pretty weak candidate, but I’ll take any Dem over John Sweeney, who voted to undercut the Endangered Species Act.
I scanned those links. There has to be some hope left.
The thing about the soil of the Amazon rain forest is it cannot be used for agricultural use. I dont remember the exact specifics but when rain forest is leveled for either development or the resale of lumber the soil essentially becomes a desert surface once it is cleared, with regrowth of any forestation highly unlikely. To read that in only a matter of a few years exposure to drought this rainforest dies quickly means that in the event of an extended drought much of the forest floor would remain dead with no regrowth.
On a side note it was 100 degrees in Illinois today.
If I remember correctly, the plant growth in cleared rainforest land is secondary growth. Like shrubs and such. Not much heavy, woody growth.
I can’t remember for sure,as it’s been a long while since I studied any of it,but I think part of the problem is once the hardwood forest is cleared it removes a nutrient base from the ecosystem. Of course, those large plants are generally slow growing anyway(or so I’ve read,so there’s no cycle that can establish itself.
Or something like that. Anyway,it’s been a long time so the old memory is really fuzzy.
Gillibrand’s renewable energy policy will help save the planet and will help our district create new jobs so when you read that story you know you are supporting the right candidate. She’s the best candidate in the race, that is for sure.
Go Gillebrand! Sweeney is a repulsive toad (no offense to toads), who’s out for no one but himself, despite his campaign lies. He was a Bush butt-boy until he saw Dubya sinking; now he’s running away from the fact that he led that disgusting riot in Florida to shut down the vote-count in 2000.
Sweeney learned very early about DC’s pay-to-play culture, and has been a leader in special interest rake-ins. Link to DemocracyInAlbany.com to find out more about this lying drunk.
Kirsten Gillebrand will be a breath of fresh air in a district that had to suffer through Gerry Solomon’s moronic right-wing rantings and Sweeney’s disgraceful tenure. The 20th district has a 2-1 GOP registration, but there are a large number of independents (including myself)who can’t wait to vote this creep out.
I hate to rain on anybody’s parade (actually, not true. I’m a true wet blanket..), but the studies that are attributed to the Woods Hole Research Center aren’t listed at the Woods Hole website. They mention only one study - you’d think that something as drastic as the rainforest turning into a desert would at least warrent a press release. Or is George Bush covering this up too?
Frank:
I don’t have a clue. I haven’t even read the woods hole research yet.
