Glenn Greenwald on Alan Colmes (Murtha lawsuit)
Published by Mike Stark August 3rd, 2006 in UncategorizedThe lawyer representing the Marine that’s decided to sue Rep. Murtha faced off against Glenn Greenwald last night.
Two key questions:
1) Who is financing the lawsuit?
2) Why assume malice on the part of Murtha - a guy who’s established a long track record of support for the military and who himself spent 37 years in the Corps - especially since he went out of his way to insulate the individuals from the brunt of his remarks by saying that the battlefield stress - stress resulting from the decisions civilian leaders have made - was the root cause of the atrocity?

This is a classic swiftboating of another hero. I cannot stand it anymore. In my opinion, the lawyer is just another liar when he says this is not political and it’s not because Murtha is a Democrat.
I would like to file a lawsuit against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and all the other neocons who dragged America into a war, based on lies. These lies have resulted in the deaths of thousands of American soldiers, and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens.
There is blood on the hands of the neocons.
If the attorney feels he is truly acting out of goodness and purity, CONTACT ME so that I can file my lawsuit against much bigger criminals. THE WORLD WILL BE WATCHING THIS ONE, and that lawyer will get all the business and attention he can handle.
Let’s just see where this lawyer’s priorities really lie, if he’s truly interested in “truth and accountability”. There are much bigger fish to fry.
This Murtha lawsuit is not about truth and accountability. It’s to redirect our attention away from the horrendous activities of the neocons.
“I would like to file a lawsuit against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and all the other neocons who dragged America into a war, based on lies. These lies have resulted in the deaths of thousands of American soldiers, and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens.”
I say, forget lawsuits - I want to see these bastards (especially Cheney) in handcuffs!
P. S. These guys are immune from being sued. The lawsuit would be dismissed at the first hearing.
“P. S. These guys are immune from being sued. The lawsuit would be dismissed at the first hearing.”
True. However, if a war was started based on lies (and we know they lied), perhaps these bastards could be put on trial in a World Court. Karl Rove: Can we sue him?
I would still need a lawyer to help make all of this happen, so I’ll just sit and wait for the call from the honorable attorney.
There couldn’t be a higher priority than the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people. Certainly makes the bent nose of some soldier pale, doesn’t it?
No doubt they will be on Feaux News to promote their bullshit. Murtha was reporting what was told to him by the military. It is sad that the military leaders have to go through Murtha to get the truth out.
a good ending by alan:”god forbid you say something that’s anti-war, not pro-administration, and that questions the actions of our troops…and you get sued which only puts a chill in free speech”
This attorney couldn’t even mask the hate in his voice when he uttered the word “coward” refering to Congressman Murtha.
No, it has nothing to do with ideology. It has everything to do with the neocon inability to tell the truth.
That’s not ideology, its pathology.
Anyone check this guy’s bar credentials?
Blue Patriot’s right. Once Alan and Glenn started logically spanking the guy, his true nature came out and he reverted to his GOP script.
I only wish they’d have made him answer who’s paying for the action.
If Murtha made his comments on the floor of the Congress, those statements enjoy absolute privledge.
In which case, either: 1) some vulture of a trial lawyer is wasting this kid’s money, which he will need for his criminal case it appears; or 2) someone is funding this, again, apparently with little concern for the young Marine. Additionally, if the plaintiff is convicted, Murtha can assert an absolute defense of truth, assuming he can be sued at all.
Hey you don’t know if it’s the actual kid’s money. This whole lawsuit could be funded from on high. Colmes kicked ass there at the end there when he said the US has a free flow of ideas, a democracy even, where lawsuits like this attempt to chill debate. The caller was good too.
OH well, this is all super-duper good for “Amerika”,you know? Why,we’ve got to get these traitors from our midst! Just like good ol’ Joe McCarthy. Now THERE was a reeel Amer’can.
*sarcasm x a billion*
The dishonesty of these pukes is amazing. IMO,there are Democrats who do things that are bad enough, but nothing can compete with these pricks lies.
Unless you’r talking about a NeoCon. Then yeah,it can be worse.
The American Civil Liberties Union never sounded more needed in this country, as long as theere are going to be Roland Freislers shrieking for the government and FOX/Tony Snow acting as the Minsitry of Information we are going to be threatened with speaking out. Murtha is an old warrior, he is over 70, we need new warriors stepping up. Presidential abuses are going unchecked, and Iraq is the greatest abuse of power one has seen in recent memory.
What gets me is that our on military is saying this guy is guilty of war atrosities. Why doesn’t he sue Bush Chaney and Rummy. These are the dudes that put him over their in the first place.
It is a shame that he (Alan) is not allowed to talk on his own television show. His radio show is always enjoyable and informative. Clearly, he could run circles around Hannity is Ailes let him off his leash.
Booker, I agree. Colmes is a first rate speaker and debater, he plays second fiddle to Hannity as their programming dictates.
I argued for Murtha against the rabid Murtha haters in another forum and all the while, wondered why the Marine commandant needed to tell the congressmen before the report was out? It seemed that the investigators were finished and the report was in the review cycle, so they felt all the details were known by then.. The media wasn’t in a chomping at the bit to discuss it. It just came from out of the blue.
the commandant only told congressmen who are former Marines and i’m guessing because they would get to make the first public judgements. The commandant had a press conference after Murtha made his comments and i flagged the cspan link for people to hear it - if Murtha had made something up”, as the haters were claiming, then the commandant surely would have said something to that effect - but he didn’t and stepped around giving any opinion of Murtha’s comments (that, after Murtha named him as the source).
The lack of comment from the commandant on what Murtha said, was a litle suspicious, given the searing heat in the media about it. The doubt is if there could be a higher degree of innocense than it seems, like if it was an unexpected accident from just following a flawed template for entering buildings (done poorly) and it would make a complicated defense that was likey to be messy, if it went to court, possibly upsetting the Iraqis in the process??
So, could the Marines be prematurely sacrificing some of their own, in order to satify the Iraqis, and show the them how “fair and just” they are?
