Talk radio locked down
Published by Mike Stark October 6th, 2006 in UncategorizedI’m not sure if it’s because the issue is indefensible or if it’s because we’re about four weeks away from the election (I suspect it’s a combination of both), but talk radio is on complete lockdown. I got through to Rush’s screener a coupla days ago and mentioned that I wanted to ask why the re-election committee saw this stuff before law enforcement did - or even the ethic committee. I also wanted to see if we could figure out why the Demcorats were’nt informed that they had pages working amidst a predator. Rush’s screener, said, and this is verbatim - “Ugh, yeah… Well, I don’t think I can use that, but thank you though.”
So this morning I had more fun with the screeners at Bennett’s radio program.
I called and said pretty much the same thing I said to Rush’s screener. Bennett’s lackey simply said, “We’ve been over this, I’ve got to go.” Never one to be easily dissuaded, I called back:
“You guys are on complete lockdown over this, huh?”
“What?”
“The Foley thing and why Democrats weren’t informed that their pages were at risk - why it went to the republican re-election committee before it went to ethics or law enforcement.”
“Yeah, well, we’ve been doing that for four days now. We’re a little tired of it.”
“Well, all morning I’ve heard you concocting ways to blame democrats for the republican pervert and the republican cover-up, so you can’t really be that tired of it…”
“It’s our show.”
I guess I’m gonna hafta start lying if I’m to get on these shows again.

Well back Mike.
I tried calling a new rightwingnut show here in NY on WABC at nights, the host is Jerry something.
They were talking about everything except the mark foley scandal. I called and asked the screener why the host was avoiding the white elephant in the room.
The screen asked “What white elephant?” I said “Mark Foley”
She promptly hung up on me.
Gotta love it.
I meant “welcome back Mike” on my previous post.

You know, if they are not letting the truth out, I’m within my right to lie to a screener.
This is the line in the sand - they DO NOT get to shut me out because they have fallen on their faces and they need to keep logic and common sense away from Americans.
We our losing our right to free speech, and the microphone Haniity talks into is MY microphone - they just borrow it from the American people for the public good.
We need to bomb the right-wing shows this week and ask them:
- How could Dems cover up anything that the Republican party tried to hide from them and bury?
- How could Dems leak anything that that the Republican party tried to hide from them and bury?
- Why didn’t they notify the Dem member of the Page board?
Let’s HAMMER these guys for the truth!
I experienced the same thing, Mike. I called Hannity’s show this last Tuesday to confront him on three innacuracies he was spreading, 1.) He had said that Monica Lewinsky was 19 when Clinton was “molesting” her, and while I was on hold, another caller told him she was 22. Sean said he was “Just handed a piece of paper that said she was barely 21″ so, while on hold for the screener, I checked her bio on Wikipedia, and she actually was about 22 and 1/2 when she first met Clinton. 2.) He keeps saying that the Studds scandal was in the 1980s, and it was in 1973, a decade earlier than when Sean was stating, over a third of a century ago, and 3.) He said that a “Democratic liberal front group funded by George Soros held on to the e-mails for months to release them just before the election as an October Suprise.” The Washington Post ran a story that morning stating that Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) had turned over the e-mails to the F.B.I. on July 29th, the same day they received them. I told the screener that it took me less than 5 minutes to research the correct information over the web, and wanted to know who Sean had fact-checking this information before the show? After hearing this, Hannity’s call screener said, “I’m sorry, but Sean has a full board right now, and we won’t be able to get through all the calls we have waiting now before the end of the show” (which was more than an hour away). I said, “If that is true, then why did you ask what I wanted to say?” He said “In case we wanted to take your number and call you back for tomorrow’s show.” I said, “Do you?” and he said, “Ah, no….We have too many calls on this topic today.” I said, “Will you provide the corrected information to Sean?” He replied, “No…we are too busy fielding callers to do that.” I said, “But you just told me you had a full board for the day already and the show still has an hour to go, right?” and he hung up. So I called the Ed Shultz Show and got on-air with Ed and told him about my experience with Sean Hannity’s call screener. You are right, Mike…they are on full lockdown.

no but seriously folks… I’m wondering if instead a better tact would be to pose as a disillusioned conservative, reporting for say….Re-Hannitization, mention the Gm give away (you know they’ll eat that), and should one get ‘through’ when sean say Studds in 80, you say yeah but that was really 73. let whomever keep tryin to pull you back into the fold and play it as if thats what you want “but are still having a hard time”.
It occurs to me lately that many people have simply chosen a side,based more on party identity perception than an issue/solution reality, they will eat whatever pablum allows them to ‘win’.
Hate radio (my wife says ‘time ta dial in the hate!’) personalities feed on these ‘intellects’, the screener is looking for these personalities, even on the opposite side of the argument (the left wing wing nut?), i dont mean too liberal, but i do mean not fact or reality based. Certainly there can be meaningful discussions based on logical assumptions and conclusions …
the hate-radio personality is equiped to hussle either position because it’s the same personality(caller)…putty..

I was in the market for a new car last week (my mazda’s transmission went)… I shopped around and found that the best deal (price/fuel efficiency) was the Honda Civic.

Sounds like the kid might be ready to get back in there and rock ‘n’ roll. I sure hope so. We are just about 30 days away to regaining at least the House …… if we don’t screw it up.
i tried to call in to the larry elder show when the story first broke…larry chose to lie about the studds case, and repeatedly brought up clinton…he also at first stated that foley could not have broken any laws as the age of consent in washington and florida is 16…i called in and informed the screener that foley could be prosecuted under the law that he pushed through congress, makeing it a federal crime to solicit any persons under the age of 18 through the internet…i was also going attempt to point out that every time a republican gets busted, the wingnuts bring up past dem foibles as an attempt to show hypocracy on the left…i of course was placed on hold for 45 minutes…and larry kept asking on the air for opposing views…horseshit liar
if you guys here studds name brought up again, and do get into a show, tell the host that studds had relations with the page in 73…a special prosecutor was called in during 83…he was censured, which at the time was the strongest punishment that could be given…it was his constituents who continued to send him back to congress…at no time was their evidence brought of a coverup
this is not about foley being gay, or having consensual relations with an underaged page…this is about the wingnuts allowing a predator to walk the halls for over 10 years before he was stopped…and yes i said 10 years…go and read the online version of the advocate.

For my 2 cents, locally, KCOL AM600 in northern Colorado has 2 quasi-wingnuts, Keith and Gail in the Morning. They tamped this down too, giving more time to home-schooling advocates, but local neighbors calling in were all over it! I was gonna call, but work, and the fact that this is way too easy a target, prevented. Besides, they’re more of the publicist types, and not so much “radio people”. End of the day, I think we’re at least gonna get our Congress back, and your efforts are the tip of that iceberg.
Give love to wife/daughter, and thank them on our behalf[s] for speaking truth to power! After you graduate, what’s the “plan”? Public office? Private practice? Mega-firm? Keep in touch, dude, you’ve got fucking GROUPIES now! -M-

Why didn’t Mike tell Rush’s screener that the Demoncrats put the pages at risk by holding on to the information about Foley so they could use it as an another election tactic?
Good thing he didn’t anally penetrate a page like that dead Demoncrat did……and then get a standing ovation.
If the screener (fluffer?) says “yeh, well it’s our show” tell him it’s the advertiser’s show and you are calling each of his local sponsors the next day to let them know what they are sponsoring. This works well with some of the more extreme programming because many local businesses buy blocks of time and are aghast when they find out their businesses are being linked to the latest wingnut idea (shoot all the immigrants, for example, or ship them all to France or whatever). Any business depending on 75% of their business from Hispanics will run away from this rightwing drivel.

Talk about screening…this blog loks like it is whitewashed with liberal B.S.
I am amazed at the way America runs its political game. Democracy is supposedly a transparent and representative form of government. Frankly, that is bullshit. I am an Australian university student, and I applaud your actions. Unfortunately, we are also becoming unable to express dissenting opinions as it stands out too starkly against the background radiation of apathy and thus makes people uncomfortable.
There have been comments about you ‘blind-siding’ a political representative/campaigner. You didnt, but if you did, so what? If someone wants to represent, they should be able to comfortably represent themselves first.
I think there is logic to the idea that political candidates should first be required to express themselves about themselves, then express general ideological positions they may hold, and only then narrow this down to specific positions they hold on issues of the day, further issues as they arise etc.
Such genuine transparency would lead to representative government that is not based in lies, hipocrisy, and media managed tripe.
