Published by Mike Stark November 6th, 2006 in UncategorizedI’m not going to say much about the recent events until I have a chance to speak with my lawyers and get their advice. I can tell you that as of right now, 2 AM on Monday, November 6, no charges have been filed against me as a result of either incident.
Until then, my employers have put out this press release.
In addition, some have questioned my sincerity and integrity. In spite of my best efforts, some believe I am affilliated with the Webb campaign in some capacity, even though I’ve never so much as linked to him… Some think I’m being paid for this. I’m not. This has been a passion for me for several years now (and I’d add that the mayor mentioned in aforelinked article is a Democrat). Until now, though, I’ve executed most of my confrontations on radio because I didn’t have a Senator campaigning in my back yard every coupla weeks.
Folks, that’s the travesty in all of this. For the most part, for 66 months out of your Senator’s 72 month term, friend or foe, you aren’t getting close to him/her unless you are a fat lobbyist carrying a fat check in your fat fingers… The other six months afford you the opportunity to get close enough to your representative to ask whatever you want, friendly or adversarial, fair or unfair, naughty or nice… Unfortunately, under the system we’ve allowed to metasticize, even in these six months, we aren’t supposed to talk with our reps unless we’re “BIG FANS”.
Well, I say to hell with that. I don’t care who you are, Democrat or Republican… If you don’t like your civil servant, go tell them. Got a problem with Hillary? Go ask her about it! Be civil, but do not shy away from difficult questions. She’s chosen her job, so have at it… Ask her if she stuck with Bill because she loved him or if it’s got something to do with political ambition. After all, she said she’d never be a “Stand by your man” type of girl…
Listen, the point is that there are ideals higher than partisanship and one of those higher ideals is accountability. Nobody taking your tax dollars in their paycheck should be above scrutiny. Do your job as citizens.
I know… for this election, it’s late in the game right now… but before you know it, primary madness will be upon us for the ‘08 elections. It’s pretty much the only time presidential candidates run that gauntlet… Make the process difficult for them so that only the best rise to the top. Let’s make sure we can’t lose in the next election because without regard to the party that wins, the candidate will be decent and competent.

Keep up the good work Mike, all of us on the progressive left know you are doing the right thing by standing up to the corporate controlled media that is really nothing more than a jingoistic flag-waver for Bush and Rummy’s illegal war for oil in Iraq.
I first thought your name was the exact same name as that Marine in Iwo Jima – Mike Strank – but then realized that a really cool progressive like you would never want to be associated with the war mongering Marines.
We are all behind you Mike. You are just like Cindy Sheehan – a really cool progressive who is using the Internet to let everyone know that George Allen is the water boy for Bush and his lies.
So why do right-wingers post anonymous comments on blogs like these and say stuff like “then realized that a really cool progressive like you would never want to be associated with the war mongering Marines”?
Are they trying to incite other right-wingers to hate their personal strawman? Post something like this and make people believe “wow, they really do hate the Marines.”
The internets bring out the children in way too many Republicans.
Dear Scott - screw you! It’s not the Marines or any other Armed Forces who are “war mongering.” The Armed Forces respond to the demands of their civilian masters.
True progressives understand the need for the Armed Forces and respect those who serve therein.
Mike - I hope your lawyers consider action against the parent who instructed her kid to take a dive. While you would be within your rights to file charges against the kid — as it was he who made contact with you — it would be terrible to cause anymore trouble for someone who must already be suffering from having such a horrible mother.
Scott:
Quite the pussy aren’t you.. much like all fudge packing democrats and a lot like Mike Stark himself. Illegal war for oil, Cindy Sheehan fan? Proof your an ass and don’t know shit about world politics and would rather be a communist which is exactly what progressive means.
Oh Mikey boy. You are in America and you dont own any town. You are not above the law and I would love to be there if and when you do jail time and you meet Bubba.
Roger provides an excellent example of why Republicans have totally lost control of their party and need to be removed from power. Thanks Roger.
Hey Mikey. By the looks of a picture of you I googled with your little Hannity Sucks Ass poster, you look like the kid who always got beat up in school. How about sticking to the issues that mean the most and stop being a little piss ant who gets all upset when they dont get their way. I wish you would have tried puhing me out of the way. I would have had a ball with you. Maybe next year at the Freedom Concert I will give you that chance. Lets see if you have the balls.
Amazing the wacky replies you’ve been getting here lately. I guess those that threaten violence don’t have the intellect to have a rational discussion. Other’s portray themselves as liberals, and then bash the military, this on the blog of a Marine, really bad form (and bad acting).
Kind of reminds me of the flopper that dove at your feet on Saturday. From the video’s , you handled yourself extremely well. Probably best to save that discussion for later though.
Keep your head in the books, we know you can get it done.
“we aren’t supposed to talk with our reps unless we’re “BIG FANS”.
I don’t think this is necessarily true. I do think that when you try to barge in screaming instigating questions or allegations you might be taken as a little hostile, and taken away, as you were.
If you approach them with a little respect, and ask your questions calmy I am sure you will get more of an honest response than you would kicking and screaming through the crowd.
Other than that I do see some of the old tired ass mantra in the comments here:
“standing up to the corporate controlled media”
“illegal war for oil in Iraq.”
“the war mongering Marines.”
I was a prior active duty Marine, and I think you don’t have a clue what you are saying. You are seemingly just reading down a list man. I have no problems with people who are anti-war, but I do have problems with people who run around chanting this weak mantra as if it were accurate.
It is apparent that you have distaste for the Armed Forces of this country, and I ind that to be the ultimate oxymoron on your part. You can correct me if I am wrong, but every right that you have, and that you think might be being taken away, was there because of our Armed Forces.
I am not saying you have to join or anything like that, but what I am saying is you had better show a little respect to these people. As was said above, the Marines, or any other branch for that matter, do not go running around the globe picking fights on their own.
In fact, during peacetime, you will usually find us (Marines) Floating aound either the Med or the Pac in MEU’s responding to disaster calls from other nations. I did more Humanitarian work in my 6 years than anything else.
You need to stop parroting what you see from your liberal sources, and educate yourself, read the history for yourself, don’t be content taking some Op Ed as an objective source of facts in any situation, be it a right wing source or a left wing source.
I take pride in my moderate position in the Republican party, and I do not suckle off any of these fringe sources. I get my information ranging anywhere from commondreams to WorldNetDaily. I also make sure I read sources from the places where the news is generating, such as Al Jazeera.
You will be surprised at the difference you will see in a situation after taking a very objective look at things, you should try it…
The video was already posted here… http://youtube.com/watch?v=dDcp4t5BiPY
If charges cannot stick, I suggest that Mike S. consider a simple restraining order against those had physical contact with him.
Ahh, Internet threats. For the bully who has no one to bully in real life (or who simply doesn’t have the means). Don’t worry guys, I’m sure you’re given respect in real life…Hey, I’ve got an idea, maybe we can set up a big rumble at next year’s Freedom Concert! I bet Makaka’s in favor
***P R E S S R E L E A S E***
Hey everyone… LOOK AT ME!!! LOOK AT ME!!! I’m really a daring radio reporter who asks the “tough questions”, not a 38 year old, fat, balding, middle-aged man who gets laughed at by the REAL law students in my class.
You know, the 1L’s who actually go to class and don’t follow a polictician around the state shouting nonsense?
I’m trying to get that evil George Allen to focus on the ISSUES, damn it! Like “Did you spit on your 1st wife?” and “Why don’t people like me?”
I’m a YOUNG TURK- fighting for the TRUTH!
-Mike Stark
Mike, you should ALWAYS have at least one or two people videotaping this stuff for you. If someone with a camera gets arrested, they can hand the camera to the police, which would require it being admiited as evidence. (Of course then you run the risk of the police “losing” the video.)
Current 2L,
You seem to have a lot of time on your hands. So much so that you constantly repeat yourself. We appreciate your comments the first time, the second, third and fourth, not so much.
Soon this election will be over and we all can say “Senator Jim Webb!!” On to the polls!
bucknation,
mike is also a former active duty marine, and if i understand his line of questioning, it is due to allen first bringing up the issue of character when discussing his opponent.
allen used the term macaca to describe a person of indian extraction, then lied as to where the term comes from…allen has pol ads with a noose and a confederate flag sitting on a bookshelf
allen is our employee, and does not deserve the benefit of anymore respect than anyone else in this country.
he could have chosen to ignore mike…he didnt
he didnt because it was mike who first brought up the aspect of racism in allen’s character….allen is scared of mike.
Oh, but Kat- you see, that’s what liberals do… REPEAT, REPEAT, and then REPEAT.
Why, just think of all the new people who come to this site and don’t want to read old posts. I have a brand new audience to tell how Mike Stark is an attention deprived, (say it with me) *Fat *Old *Balding “first year law student”.
There. How do you like it the 5th time. By the way, when you can actually REFUTE the claims in my posts, I’ll be listening.
bacci40,
I hope you don’t mind me quoting you for responses; I just wanted it to be clear what I was replying to.
“mike is also a former active duty marine, and if i understand his line of questioning, it is due to allen first bringing up the issue of character when discussing his opponent.”
I was commenting on Scott Laughrey’s statement concerning the “warmongering Marines.” It had nothing to do with Mike.
“allen used the term macaca to describe a person of indian extraction, then lied as to where the term comes from…allen has pol ads with a noose and a confederate flag sitting on a bookshelf”
I wasn’t discussing anything about Allen, or what he has said or done, I was discussing this incident with Mike, and how he handled the situation. I watched the video of it, and Mike, you jumped all over that guy, what did you expect for a reaction?
“allen is our employee, and does not deserve the benefit of anymore respect than anyone else in this country.”
He doesn’t deserve to be run up on like that. He is in a position where any number of kookoo’s might be wanting to do him harm, you have to respect the space. I would expect that as an average citizen. If Mike ran up on me like that and started shouting personal questions, you could bet I would be in his face right back.
“he could have chosen to ignore mike…he didnt”
The guy tried to rush in and get in his face, right, easily ignored…
“allen is scared of mike.”
Maybe, but there might be other reasons besides the ones you state.
Do you think Mike really went about this confrontation in the right way? I mean did he approach this in a way that would generate an air rational discussion between the two?
I think one has to be somewhat neutral in this case. If there is bad blood between these two, Mike should have known better than to run up on this guy demanding things. It seemed like a very antagonistic move on his part.
I am not a fan of some Senators, but I would never try to push through the help in order to get in their face. That is just me though, I don’t see how confrontations like the one Mike had serve any purpose except to instigate. A more reserved approach, and maybe a solid line of questioning, other than this thing he said about Allen spitting on his first wife who, by the way, has come out and said it was a ridiculous statement.
One final note:
I do not support Allen, I think the guy is a sack personally, but this does not make what Mike here did right, by any means. I live in the south, and I know how some of these southern politicians are, they use racist terms now and then, but a lot of them are far from racist. I know it is a whacked out concept but it is true. I don’t know if Allen really knew the term he was using, and I find it hard to believe that he would use it knowing that he was being filmed by someone from his opposition.
It really does not matter here though, in the case of mike being manhandled…
I am not a criminal lawyer, but the last time that I checked, there is no such thing as “investigative detention.” You’re either in custody, or you’re free to go, and if you are arrested, you have to be charged with a crime.* What was their basis for detaining you beyond a couple of minutes to figure out if an assault had, in fact occurred?
*This refers to the state of the law before the military commissions act.
Why is it that all these ReNAMBLAcans are so fascinated… no, obsessed by homosexual butt sex? They mention it in every post… I think they doest protest too much.
Self-hating closet-cases say what?
“I’m gonna beat you up and I hope you commies end up in jail with bubba… By the way, my name’s Bubba.”
Ignorant Authoritarians are so darned funny.
Ehem,
Hey 2L, you wet-behind-the-ears, snarky little bitch, who’s obviously never held a job that wasn’t for daddy in his short, wasted, selfish, arogant life. Fuck you.
You’re talking about a guy who’s got more experience in the last 2 weeks than you’ll get in the next 5 years of working 80 hour weeks. He’s a Marine, and you don’t even have the knowledge to know what theat means! You are clueless, and besides that, you have no conviction. None. You’re a sad reminder of what’s wrong with the civics education in this country, and why guys like Allen get elected. It’s posuers like you and your ilk that are too frightened to admit that you haven’t a clue to what’s what in this world, but the boss man votes ReNAMBLAcan, and that’s good enough for you. Go do something with your life. Law school is for little bitches with more money than guts, and real people who know what the world needs and who have the drive to get it done.
Guess which you are?
Trick question- you already told us.
You astoundingly pretentious dick.
Thanks Blue Patriot, I had to go out and put in a few hours campaigning so I just got back. You made all the points I would have, but more colorfully. Some young folks are so superficial all they can talk about is how someone looks. Life is not a beauty contest, and neither is politics, if that were true there would be no one left in D.C.
Blue “Patriot”,
I’m trying to translate your liberaleese to English for all the visitors. Let’s review the “points” of your “argument”, shall we?
*you wet-behind-the-ears
*snarky little bitch
*obviously never held a job that wasn’t for daddy in his short, wasted, selfish, arogant life.
*Fuck you.
*He’s a Marine, and you don’t even have the knowledge to know what theat means!
*You are clueless

*posuers like you
*astoundingly pretentious dick.
Well, it seems that you went a little overboard on the Democratic name-calling that you libs are famous for (and Kat call US angry?), but you made points with the profanity… good, little liberal.
Hey- fuck face… (see? I can cuss too!) you don’t know me. “He’s a Marine” So what? I was in law enforcement for over 15 years, including street crime narcotics as well as hostage/crisis negotiation. Whoopi-de-doo!
Oh, and I LOVED the “ReNAMBLAcan” comment… but, please remember- its ONLY DEMOCRAT congressmen who’ve ACTUALLY HAD SEX WITH MINORS. Get it? Foley is a creep- but don’t you remember DEMOCRAT CONGRESSMAN Mel Reynolds and DEMOCRAT CONGRESSMAN Gary Studds? They (say it with me)- ACTUALLY HAD SEX WITH MINORS… not just sent creepy emails.
And I’m so glad that Kat thanked you for being so “colorful”. If a conservative had ranted like the little child you are, she’d be the first to complain about how foolish we were acting.
Sooooo, in closing- Kat, you’re a hypocrite and “Patriot”, you’re just an unhinged moron. How’s that for name-calling?
hey mike and everyone on here….why is the allen campaign using these tactics?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9i-_3TiN9g
and im sorry….but mike didnt rush anyone…he was attempting to get into position to ask a question….and in the second tape, he rushes no one
and wait…using a racist term doesnt make one a racist? here that rev jackson, you get to say hymie town as much as you want
Scott Laughrey’s sometimes weak attempt at Satire is all over the internet.
It is amazing how many people here and elsewhere reply to him as if he is real and more often than not actaully misinterpret what he says, such as what “Buck nation” did above who seems to actually think Scott is a liberal.
Go see Borat. He is real.
http://www.e-Merges.com
the thing that is funny is that Webb is about as conservative as you can get (without being Allen) and would most likely hate Mike Stark and the other little aggravators who post here …
Current 2L,
Now let me see if I have this right. You were in law enforcement for over 15 years, you are currently 2L that would make you about what, say 40. That would make you older than Mike Stark, right. Well I sure hope your classmates aren’t snickering at you behind your back because you’re so old and just a 2L. That would not be very nice.
And by the way you read my post incorrectly. I thanked Blue for covering the points I would have and mentioned that he did so more colorfully than I.
So in closing Current, before you call someone a hypocrite, try a complete reading of the post you are responding to.
Tomorrow, when Jim Webb loses, this site will become as irrelevant as Mike Stark.
And, yes Kat- that was my point. I AM a 36 year old, short, fat, balding 2L… so my frame of reference is right on target.
In keeping with your friend and his colorful prose- I’ll just leave this site with a final thought:
Kat is a dummy.
Thank God Current has left. I may be a “dummy” but at least I’m not a “Republican”, who’s kidding himself about his party. That guy has some serious issues. And since he said he’s left the site, if he posts again it will just confirm what most of us already know. Republicans lie!
Wow, dems really are getting worried. Suddenly the dickhead stalker wants to be all rational and conciliatory. Uuummmm, yeah see I’m not really partisan. Naaahhhh, I just think you should be able to ask questions. And I have nothing, NOTHING, to do with webb… Sorry mikey, you should have thought before you acted. You came off as an asshole, and you came off as a webb ally. You can’t say psych and make it all go away. Thanks for the votes, buddy. Now go plan something for Allens victory speech.
How are your grades in school? With all the shenanigans you are pulling, it reminds me of an immature school child striving to get attention when his grades go south.
Do you think that any adult believes this farce about you being an average American wanting to talk with his representative? If you weren’t so pathetic I would feel sorry for you.
Grow up and deal with situations like an adult. If you have a position you want to put forth then write about it using facts and logical reasoning to persuade others. Going to these events with the sole objective of disrupting Allen’s ability to meet with his supporters makes you out to be either a stalker or an overboard Democrat zealot using dirty tricks to disrupt the Allen campaign. Its people like you who contribute to the divisive atmosphere, negative campaigning, and low opinion of partisan politics.
What will you do when the election is over? Probably you will get a job at the DNC office. That’s the least they can do for you considering all the time you spend harassing the Republican candidate.
Dammit mikec and copernicus, you just blew Current2L’s fine anti-name calling speech!
We need to focus on getting Allen back in power to help us keep creating more terrorists for good of our great nation!
Hey Cunt2L:
That’s “38 year old, fat, balding, middle-aged” MARINE. Got that Chickenhawk?
Current2L…
Corrupt, ignorant and republican is not way to go through life, son.
http://unrulymob.blogspot.com/2006/11/growing-gop-list-of-shame.html
Current 2L sounds like the typical dillusional GOP hack, watching his wet dream team get kicked down the capitol steps on their way to yet another 40 years of fist shaking.
I’d like to point out that this loss today could be the best thing for the GOP. It will give them pause to rethink their efforts to put these dirty cheating scoundrels in charge.
Hey, I like Linc Chafey for Minority Leader.
2L, your sad, petty little diatribe against someone taking an interest in excersising their rights and pointing out the disgusting current and former behavior of George F. Allen is just a sign that you fear Democracy. You’re so obviously anti American and pro-authoritarian that it makes me want to call your parents and ask them what they were thinking. See, Democracy is dangerous, and today’s GOP is just topped off with the fearful, the ignorant, the bigoted, and the pant-wetting terrified (or Hannitized). You want to project your toughness, but you don’t have the balls to just say “Yeah, Osama pulled one over on us. He’s dead, and his friends are dead, but we’re getting back to business as usual.”
That’s called bravery. That’s called being an American. Maybe I could suggest a book about it to you, so you could see what I’m talking about?
Oh, that’s right. You better go study to be a good divorce lawyer.
-Blue Patriot
I agree completely that everyone should be involved in the political process. That doesn’t mean if you vote you have done your part. You need to vote and be informed on what that vote will mean for you in the future. If each of your votes follows a party line you have done yourself a disservice. If you do your homework you will see that moderates for both parties in some cases have opinions much closer to yours than the party you associate yourself with.
A quick question for Mike. Allen has climbed in the polls since the incident with you. If he comes all the way back and wins today are you responsible for his election?
Boy, these Pugs aren’t used to losing, aren’t they? Wow.
But they’ll learn quickly, because MacacaMan is GOING DOWN, hard, to a well-deserved obscurity where he’ll spend his days hanging out at the local bait shop spitting into the creek and waiting for someone, anyone, to acknowledge him.
His presidential ambitions are already toast. His getting the boot from his Senate job will be a fitting finish for Spitty McBigot. And Mike Stark can take a big bow for his part in that event.
As for his supporters, better check your meds, especially the ones for depression and high blood pressure. Stress-induced aneurysms can be deadly.
Bwahahaha… Come on back here about 9 tonight, sharoney. Allens victory speech should be wrapping up by then.
Sharoney/Mike…I predict that all of these neo-conservitive trolls….people like Current2L…who are lipping off here today will be sleeping content as newborn babies tonight…
you know…
sleep for two hours, wake up and have a good long cry…..sleep for two hours, wake up and have a good long cry…..sleep for two hours, S#!T your PANTS, wake up and have a good long cry…..sleep for two hours, wake up and have a good long cry…..sleep for two hours, wake up and have a good long cry…
Jeffy, I can’t speak for the other Republicans, but I’m not terribly concerned with the outcome. Great if we win, tons of fun if we lose. A Pelosi/Reid leadership will leave the Republicans stronger than ever in a couple years. It would be a different story if Dems had the white house, but Bush can limit their damage to the country while allowing them to destroy their party.
i think a lot of independents or republicans who hate the iraq war were leaning towards Webb until this Mike guy’s ridiculous stalker display. big turn off for the law and order types …
Gotta love people like Mikec…get their asses handed to them in a fight, yet attempt to claim a moral victory.
Here’s a recap of what happened, Mikie…Without a doubt, America refuted neo-conservitivism tonight.
Of that, there is no doubt.
And, worse for you, this is the beginning of a 6-year pendulum swing back from the far-right.
Watch in the coming weeks for substantial republican resignations, likely to be at least 5 former leadership positions announcing retirement, and even 2-3 RtoD party switches in the House.
Dems gained 31 house seats before midnight tonight. Total take could top 40-45 before the hemmoraging stops.
The era of Delay/Santorum conservitivism has ended, Mikie…Both houses of Congress are shifting to moderate. Face the music, poor boy…there’s no other way to put lipstick on this pig.
I just can’t wait to listen to Hannity try to candy-coat this turd tomorrow….I might even pop some popcorn and crack a few beers and flip the barco-lounger back to savor the whole three hours.
Off to bed for now…where I will sleep the sleep of kings, and dream dreams of a brighter future for America.
God bless our Nation, and God bless the American voting public.
no question that little mike…a former active duty marine…a husband, father and blogger may have had a huge hand in causing an allen loss
allen may ask for a recount…and if he does….the dem party will lead the charge to sue him and the repugs for attempting to suppress votes…the evidence is there
In a more perfect world this Virginia thing wouldn’t be resolved by a recount but a rumble held right here at this very site. The marines vs. a few mercenaries sent by the chickenhawk.
But we don’t live in that world, do we?
hey senator macaca!!!!!
bwaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Good Morning, Eric.
I will “meet” you here later today. You thought my House prediction 225/210 was too lofty ….. looks like I underestimated. Anyway - looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
Nance
Current 2L -
I’m sure I will hear from you, also. I bet you call me a “dummy” a few more times. I always get a kick out of that.
Screw Allen’s wimpering for a recount….what we need here is…
THUNDERDOME!
Say it with me people…
Two men enter…one man meaves…Two men enter…one man meaves…Two men enter…one man meaves…Two men enter…one man meaves…Two men enter…one man meaves…
let them recount ……. they can be seen as the “sore losers” for a while. Looking forward to reading a post from Eric today. Have a Great day, America !
Let me correct that to “leaves” before Eric goes on a 40-post-long rant attempting to gig me on a typo.
Nance, Eric won’t be on for a few hours…his mom is trying to coax him out of his basement bedroom where he has been curled in a fetal position, rocking back and forth and sobbing uncontrollably for the better part of the night uttering “why?…..why?….Oh, GOD IT’S SPEAKER PELOSI….why?…Why oh why are Rush and Sean never around when I need a hug? help me…please help me.”
When are rush, hannity, leilly, etc going to update their websites. It truly sucks to be them this morning.
Bwahahaha… Come on back here about 9 tonight, sharoney. Allens victory speech should be wrapping up by then.
How’d that go?
Wow. Quite a crew of commenters here. I especially like the ones who suggest that if only you were a bit more respectful, and only you had used the power! of! the! written! word!, then you would not be considered such a dirty, hippie agitator.
Why is it there is such a lack of understanding about the words “public servant” and “elected representative” with some people?
Why is civility such a lofty goal in a world where one party, the GOP, will tell any lie or smear to get into power or to retain power? Why is civility such a lofty goal in a world where we committed our military to a country that was not a threat to us, sacrificing the lives and limbs of our troops there, and where we have a created a Hell on Earth for the people who live there?
Anyway, enough ranting. Mr. Stark, I hope you keep us posted about your legal actions against the Allen staffers.
Eric assured that he will post here today so I’m sure he will. He is probably just waiting to see what happens in the Sen. with Va. and Montana. The reason I called him a Kool-Aid drinker a couple of days ago was because he seemed to ignore the scientific data of the reputable nonpartisan polling showing that there was no doubt that the Dems would win the House. Go back and look at our postings - I was right. He was wrong. I have been on the other side before and when that happens, I do not try to spin the results. I suck it up …… and admit it, we got smoked! I am hopeful that Eric will show that same type of character when he posts today. Current2L on the other hand …… will probably just call me a “dummy” again. The name calling is about all you get from Current2L. That and movie quotes from HORRIBLE movies.
Have a GREAT DAY, America ! You deserve it.
happy days are here again….
Hell of a night…. congratulations on a House win and semi-Senate win…. Jeff - recounts are a part of the statute, so yeah, we need one. I said at the beginning of the night as results in VA came flowing in that VA would be decided by absentee ballots, and today I say the same thing.
Let’s hope your party makes the best of these two years. You had everything going your way this time around, much like we’ve enjoyed in previous cycles. Don’t let your party squander a chance to do some good. Though, in reality, I think we’ve guaranteed ourselves government gridlock for the next two years.
A rough night to be a Republican. There are some bright prospects for the voting public though. Record turnout for midterms, despite the rain. It’s good to see that. No spin coming here, I’ll let everyone else do that.
Nance - solid predictions, not much more to say about that.
Jeff - I hope, for your sake, that you grow up. And you won’t see party switches, and I doubt you’ll resignations. Republicans have the unique ability to rally around something and fix it, I’d look for a shift in ideology back to true conservatism before anything else. But it’ll take a bigger person to see the difference, so my guess is you’ll be clueless.
Sorry, Eric….Hastert is already stepping down from party leadership and insiders are leaking that he is considering retirement. As I said, his is the first of possible as many as five. It is a fact of the process…there will be several who, once having great power, will not be able to adjust to being in the minority….If you knew anything about elections and politics, you would understand that to be true. I’ll stand by my predictions…they certainly have been proven to be far more correct than yours, thank you.
Oh…and one last thing, Eric…Recounts are NOT part of the statute in Virginia.
According to the state law, Virginia’s election laws allow an apparent loser to request a recount if a contest’s margin is less than 1 percent.
If Allen thinks he has a chance, he is allowed to request a recount…it is not automatic.
Apparently, election law is yet another topic where you need to study a little harder before you put finger to keyboard.
Hey Everybody, Looks like it’s just us “Dummies” here…but now we are “Dummie Winners” like the rest of the country. Boy doesn’t it feel good!! I can’t wait to watch Sean and Billo today. Rush will probably have to get a new supply of pharmacueticals. Everybody did a great job we need to keep it up going into ‘08.
Nicely stated, Kat !
I just now heard that Rumsfield is gone. The Bush legacy will be one of complete failure and embarrassment.
BTW - thanks for the note, Eric. My predictions were very luckily right on the mark. Now to all those Repubs who are saying that the DEM control of Congress will be shortlived - I say, let’s wait and see. If they follow Pelosi’s plan of action …… then I think we might just settle in for another long period of DEM control - and hopefully, win back the White House but that is never going to be easy with what we have to deal with in the South.
Have a Great Day, America !
A recount is absolutely appropriate.
As a progressive, my first political objective is to ensure that all votes count. My second objective is to ensure that all vote counting is transparent. It is only when people have faith in the voting system they become participants in the voting system.
Otherwise, if Webb and his supporters (me included) don’t want a recount, then they should have seen to it they won by more than 1-percent.
And, while my fingers are flying, you have to think that Mike played a nice little role in this election. At the end of a campaign, the battle is over the undecided and the unlikely voters. (The core voters have decided.) The advantage is to the challenger: if the undecided don’t like the incumbent by then, they probably never will. Mike exposed the ugly side of Allen, further driving that point home. In other words, seeing Allen’s goons attack voter reminded the undecided and the unlikey that yea, there is something about Felix we just don’t like.
When Bush was asked in the press conference about his reading contest with Rove, Bush said he’s losing. His explanation for why he is losing is that he was working harder on the campaign than Rove. The bloom seems to be fading and all that’s left is turd.
Jim…I believe that recounts are appropriate for open and fair elections too, but in Virginia, there is no automated trigger for one, and in fact, it will tie up the ability to move forward with senate planning for at least another 20 days. In Virginia, a candidate cannot even request a recount until the elecytion has been officially certified. In this case, that means it will wait until November 27th. If the count of the provisional and absentee ballots shows even a modest lead for Webb, then it would be in the best interest of the Nation for Allen to just conceed the race, and avoid tying up the Nation for up the next six weeks waiting for Va results.
i say have the recount…it is what is good for democracy, and it will show that dems are not as petty as republicans in this respect
i am a little sad because duckworth and ford lost, and that bitch mean jean won
bacci40, Those are the same 3 races that disappointed me also. But the good news, they were all close. Maybe ‘08 for the House..I don’t know about Ford. Tennessee may still have some race issues going on there.
ZOMG TOTELLY LEFT WIENG CONSPRIAsY!!1 [/rethuglican]
hey mike stark, does it bother you that your blog has become more popular now then when you actually contributed to it?
Nance, Kat, Jim, et al,
You guys and your enthusiasm for the Democratic process rock. Cheers from Philadelphia, and Way to go, Mike Stark! Allen (probably) wouldn’t have self-destructed without you!
Now, back to my hat dance [dance, dance, tequila shot, dance, dance]
(2L is irrelevant.)
i was really wanting Duckworth, as well. I have to admit, I had given up on Ford (he seems like a good man ….. just about a million miles to the right of R.I. republican, Chaffee)….. but Jean Schmidt being reelected would be such an embarrassment to me if i lived in her district. She does not seem to be a nice woman.
Have a Great Day, America !
“A Pelosi/Reid leadership will leave the Republicans stronger than ever in a couple years.”
Wow, spinning faster and harder than a magnetar!
XStryker….I agree…in fact, MikeC’s comment is spinning faster than Tonya Harding on an three-day diet pill and jolt cola bender.
Hannity, Limbaugh and O’Liely have their minions so amped up on unwarranted “Pelosi-fear”, that their eyeballs are vibrating.
Personally, if “San Francisco Values means that you are married to the same partner for 50 years, raise 5 children, and then enter civic life, I’ll take “San Francisco Values over the party of Gingrich in a heartbeat.
Conservitives trumpet “family values”, but are frightened beyond reason to extend the OPPORTUNITY to form a family based on sexual orientation. Conservitives don’t want Gays and Lesbians to have the ability for the state to sanction their monogomous relationship because they “supposedly” believe that “marriage is a lifelong committment between one man and one woman”. I guess Gingrich is afraid that Gays won’t take seriously the vows to love and honor that committment like he did with his first wife. I guess Gingrigh is unsure that Lesbians are unable uphold the same promise of monogomous committment he shared with his second wife. I guess he fears that the existence of same-sex unions will somehow infringe on the longevity of his relationship with his third wife.
America grew tired of this hypocracy….that’s why we’ve jettisoned such bastions of “moral” behavior as Duke Cunningham, Bob Ney, Tom Delay, Curt Weldon, Mark Foley, et:al
The loud whooshing sound you heard this morning was the sound of a toilet flushing.
Now, with the Dems are in charge, it will be good to see ethics return to the forefront. I sincerely hope that the Pelosi leadership keeps the promise and the first round of cases includes William Jefferson. It’ll show conservitives what real ethics in the right hands can be.
Tucker was soooooo mad after the GOP flush-fest…
He tried to kick me three times. Maybe he could tell by my quiet snickering, I was enjoying the Retardlican crash.
im just wondering if mike took the day off from classes so he could kick back and listen to the radio wingnuts whine and spin yesterday’s election
for the past 6 years, they have supported 99 percent of what the congress and prez have done…but now they say that the party has to get back to its roots?
and jeff is right…if jefferson wins the runoff next month, the dems need to open an ethics case against him in january….it may burn some of the african american base, but it is the right and moral thing to do.
“According to the state law, Virginia’s election laws allow an apparent loser to request a recount if a contest’s margin is less than 1 percent.”
Jeff - what do you think that means? Oh, could it be that there is a statute that says a recount can take place? Nobody but you said anything about it being automatic.
Eric, the majority of states have statutes that contain “automatic triggers”, usually at 1 percent, that REQUITE recounts. Virginia is not one of those states. In Virginia, if the difference in a race is UNDER 1%, then a recount is undertaken regardless of the wishes of those involved in the race. In Virginia, no recount occurs unless four specific conditions are met:
1) the race has been certified AND
2) the difference in the race is not greater than 1%, AND
3) the presumptive loser must request that a recount is initiated, AND
4) IF the difference is .5%, the presumptive loser must post a bond equal to 1/2 of the estimated cost of the recount.
Further, while in MOST states, the Board of Elections can undertake a recount immediately, in Virginia, you must wait until the certification of the race to even place the request. In this case, the official certification will not occur until the 27 of November.
If Allen REQUESTS a recount, it cannot begin for 19 more days, and could tie the election transmittion of the official certification for several weeks beyond that.
Hence, recounts are neither required or “automatic” in Virginia, and can take a significant amount of time compared to MOST states, Eric…do you understand the difference now?
Sorry, “then a recount is undertaken regardless of the wishes of those involved in the race” should read “a recount must be requested in order to occur”…sorry if that confuses you further, Eric.
Woot, woot, WOOT!!!!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061109/ap_on_el_se/democrats_senate
My favorite is when they refer to
Allen as “once presidential hopeful”…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P6UU6m3cqk&eurl=
I hope newspeople like Mike will follow through on their important responsibility of governmental watchdog to ensure that no further tampering or intimidation occurs in Virginia. Congrats are not in order just yet. First of all, regardless of the allegations of a 51-49 senate, Lieberman has voted with Bush on every Iraq vote to date, why would that change now. He is the biggest hawk in the Democratic (oops Independant??) Party. If he holds true to form, Cheney will be the deciding voice, not McCaskill or Webb or any Democrat. I am thrilled by the results, but also very wary of deceit by those like Lieberman, who was so sure he and Gore would win that he still ran for the senate in 2000. Maybe he advised Al to only ask for a four county recount in Fla. Had he asked for a full recount like Allen will, he would be a secon term Pres right now. He’d have also ordered a shoot down of three jetliners saving thousands of lives, not reading about goats to elementary students in a swing district. But I guess that’s old news. No more Rumsfeld, instead they try to place the fired CIA chief as SecDef. Ridiculous! Just wait until the bombs start falling on Tehran during the 2008 primaries. These facists will stop at nothing. And Connecticut should beware of the wolf in sheep’s clothing. I mean it took registered GOP voters to get him elected. Need I say more? I pray Pelosi goes for the throat and lets Conyers introduce his impeachment documents. Then maybe she will be the incumbent in 2008. I know that thought makes Eric wet his pants. Remember “When Bill Clinton lied, nobody died.” How many have to die for W’s numerous lies. Impeach Bush ‘07!!!!!
Mike, MacacaMan is toast. TOAST. He’s done.
Take a big fat honkin’ BOW, my man. You and Sidardth deserve all the praise. My hero!
Are you still pressing charges? Pass the popcorn!
And wingnuts, all I can say (to quote one of your own): “Boo-frickin’-hoo.”
LOSERS. That includes you, too, Mikey-boy. Plan on listening to your tobacco-spitting hero’s CONCESSION SPEECH? I’ll even tape it for you.
Mike? Mike? Bueller? Anyone?
Why, where did all the little wingnuts go? [[[crickets]]]
Let me add - Great Job, Mike Stark !
No more Sen. Allen ……. Current2L might call you old, bald, and fat ( I think someone really has a crush on you ), but lots of us love what you do! Way to go, man.
Let’s all enjoy the moment.
Have a Great day, America !
Jeff… are you fucking clueless?
What in the hell are you talking about. Are you just quoting stuff for the hell of it? Here is what I said about a recount:
“recounts are a part of the statute, so yeah, we need one.”
That’s it. That’s all I said. So again, you’re creating questions in your head. You really need to be able to control the voices up in there. There is a provision for a recount in the statute, regardless of whether or not it’s used, it’s there. Going off on your little tangent about the difference in recount policies was utterly useless and a waste of time. Congratulations, you really are an idiot.
I’ve refrained from name calling for the past couple of days, but sometimes even people you amaze me with stupidity. You put quotes around “automatic” like I used the term. Learn to read.
where did all the little wingnuts go?
Somewhere between “why god why?” and the dry heaves.
Losers.
Eric, I know you are really really dissapointed, but you need to really really calm down…it appears to be all over anyway.
The AP called the race earlier this evening as a big old “W” for Jim Webb, and internal comments from the Allen campaign say he will conceed tomorrow.
No more need to whip this dead elephant…the Senate, House and the Governorships have all shifted to the BLUE column….sorry it did not go your way, son.
Mike Stark, congratulations…you are part of HISTORY!
Regardless of his dream career path, Felix will not retire from the Senate to accept a position at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue…In fact, his NEXT job will likely involve the use of the phrase “Welcome to WalMart…would you like a cart?”
Off to measure for the carpet and drapes.
If Mike hadn’t entered the fray, Webb might have had a larger margin! Good thing that he didn’t “help” Weed- if you thought his numbers were bad, just think about how bad they would have been with Mike’s hysterical interventions.
Maybe if their are more Cville based Young Turks like Mike out there in ‘08, the Republicans will gain some seats back.
Tom? You in there? Tell us….Have you been smoking CRACK? Allen’s numbers started slipping with the “MACCACA” flip. At that point, he held a SIXTEEN POINT LEAD and EVERY news source predicted a cake-walk. By the time Mike asked him if he ever used the “N” word, he was at 9. When Mike was roughed up in “Cville”, the race went EVEN.
It’s true the race was Allen’s to lose…and every opportunity along the path, if there was a pile of dogshit, Allen stuck his foot square in it.
Let’s recap.
1) “Let’s welcome Maccaca to America”
“Confederate flags have great meaning with people of MY heritage”
2) “I made the word up, I don’t see why you are offended”
3) “I’ve NEVER used the “N” word, even though I grew up in the rural south”
4) “I ain’t no jew, and I’m offended you asked me if I was one”
5) “Well, Actually,I AM part jewish, but mom fed me pork chops and Ham”
6) “It was only for a parking ticket and an expired fishing license”
7) “I never spit on my ex…just slapped her around a little, and NEVER with a closed fist..that’s all”
9) “It wasn’t a noose…it was more like a lasso…and even if it WAS a noose, I never actually used it to lynch anyone”
10) “My opponent used WORDS in fancy BOOKS. People who support him must READ”
11)”This Stark guy DESERVED to be thrown to the ground and roughed up…after all, he IS a LIBERAL!”
and finally:
12)”I’d like to knock their soft teeth down their whiny throats“
The previous comments constitute a twelve-step program on how to blow a double diget lead and hand the senate to the opposition party in the process.
Mike Stark nearly lost the race for Webb?Yeah….Right…….I ask you again, Tom…you been smoking CRACK?
George Bush says….QUACK.
ladies and gentleman, an astounding thing happened on the drug addicts show today…he admitted to being a crack ho…he has been whoring for the republican party for the past 4 years…he has lied for them…the proof that mike is not crazy and his quest was just

Gee,I thought Webb was going to l00z3!!!
Oh my poor neocons! How sad you must be.
Uncle Yakki will make you a nice sugar tit and get that favorite album you like, you know the one where Bush keeps saying ‘Stay the Course’ over and over.
BTW my trollie-darlings,there’s ass-balm for your poor, spanked tookus in the refridgerator. I put it in there so it’d be nice adn cold for you.
Mike, don’t let up on Allen. Those bastards need to be made an example of. Politicians answer to us,period.
Chickfu-
Bush did look a little ‘ruffled’ today.
Maybe he’s molting,eh?
Mike Stark…you, playing David, have not only bought Goliath to his knees….you also were a BIG part in wrestling control of the Senate away from Neo-cons. Walk proud, my man….walk proud! Congress is now is sane hands again as a result of your work.
It’s almost like the “for the want of a nail” story.
For the want of one question, a lie was begun.
For the want of one honest answer, a campaign was lost.
For the want of one win, the senate turned blue.
For the want of the senate, the whole CONGRESS went Dem.
For the loss of the congress, a president fired his architect of war.
For the fireing of a warmonger, a troop drawdown will come in Iraq.
For the want of change in military leadership, hundreds, if not thousands, of our troops will be spared.
Walk proud, Mike…walk proud.
Jeff- you actually believe that a fool like Mike can make a race go even? I think the crack is in your pipe! But, all joking aside, Allen lost the race for himself- anyone who can have so may verbal gaffes during one campaign should not win. Your #12 is my favorite.
Have you thought about asking Mike to adopt you, seeing that you are so proud of him?
Talk about sophomoric…Tom lobs back the kindergarden retort, “If you LOVE Mike so much, why don’t you MARRY him?”
Heckofajobthere, Tommy.
Sophomoric would describe the kind of hero-worship that you and others display; hence my sophomoric response!
This one’s for YOU, Eric…

Allen to Concede Election This Afternoon
By Michael D. Shear
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, November 9, 2006; 12:40 PM
Virginia Sen. George Allen will concede that he has lost the election to Democrat James Webb at a 3 p.m. news conference in Alexandria, according to a source close to the campaign with direct knowledge of the senator’s intentions.
As of this morning, Allen trails Webb by 7,484 votes after a bruising reelection campaign. Republican sources said Allen had concluded that no amount of recounting would change the outcome, but members of the senator’s campaign staff would not publicly confirm his intentions.
A concession would spare the country from a recount that could have left control of the U.S. Senate in limbo for weeks. (emphasis added) And it would make official what many have been saying since late Wednesday: that Webb will become Virginia’s junior senator, giving Democrats a 51-seat majority and complete control of Congress for the first time in more than a decade.
Webb is expected to address reporters publicly today after Allen’s announcement.
————
Why are trolls still here?
Kat, give them some time…they are trying to work through their 5 stages of grief.
They experienced the “Denial” stage yesterday…hence all the posts about the loss not making one bit of difference, the statements that the democratic congress is really a conservitive congress in disguise, the predictions that republicans will just retake the majorities in 08 and all the cries for a recount in the Allen race.
They are currently meshed in the ANGER stage, hence, returning here to spew brickbats.
Soon, they will move on to the “barganing” phase…you know…like Bush did yesterday when he threw Rumsfeld under the bus.
That is closely followed by the “depression” phase…which will likely last them at least two months, and it will resurge again on January 3rd, when the new Democratic controlled congress convenes for the first time….watch for high turnout at AA meetings, and a strong uptick of call volume to suicide prevention hotlines in early January.
Shortly thereafter, the “acceptance” phase will begin to sink into their thick heads, as they begin to realize that, no matter what Sean Hannity has convinced them to be true, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is really just a nice little grandmother, not a she-devil sent from the boiling cauldrons of hell to steal their sheckles, consume the flesh of unborn babies and set fire to their bibles.
That Sean…he’s such a kidder.
After that, things should return to being okey-dokey.
Congratulations, Mike! And thanks for all your hard work.
You truly made a difference.
This just in: Arlen Specter, 2 other Northeast Republicans currently considering party switch. More later.
Well said Yakki. Bush has always been lame, now he’s officially a duck too. Best part of the election is watching him do an about face. Poor little chimpy.
I just listened to Allen’s concession speech and thought of you. Happy day! Thanks for your passion Mike.
Jeff- What do you call the stage when the weekly tax deposit increases?
I’m sure we both share relief that Allen has conceded; probably the wisest move he has made in the last six months!
Congratulations to Sen. Webb; I think he be more active as a legislator than Allen was.
It’s incredible to think, along with everyone else’s hard work, Mike may have tipped the election for Webb, which has tipped the balance of power in the Senate.
I heard on MSNBC, that after the results were in on Tuesday, instead of staying at the party, Webb and a friend, his gunner from Vietnam who lost an arm there, went out to Arlington National Cemetary.
One person can make a difference.
tom,
if you make over $250k/year, then yes, your taxes WILL go up. I think the rest of America is safe.
Judging from the way you write, I dont think you need to worry about YOUR taxes going up.
PS. My taxes WILL go up, but so what. Unlike you, I understand that the world needs ditchdiggers and we cant all be CEO’s. Therefore, the CEO’s have to help the ditchdiggers survive on minimum wages that you FUCKERS refuse to raise.
TOM ASKED: “Jeff- What do you call the stage when the weekly tax deposit increases?”
Tom, I call that paying down the national debt.
This administration writes bad checks with no regard for the future, and blew a 4 trillion dollar surplus in the first 20 months in office alone, and is currently wrapping a 9 trillion dollar surprise for our kids. They write bad checks so freaking fast that they have currently spent us nine trillion dollars in the hole.
They spend like drunken sailors on shore leave….which is why china and japan now hold the notes to a majority of our debt.
Personally, I believe OUR generation should be responsible for our spending…how about you? would you rather your grandchildren pay china and japan for your measily bush tax cuts, plus interest?
Tom,
The republicans always co-opted the language and came up with the ‘death-tax’ meme. By cutting the death tax and all the spending you mention, they’ve effectively created a birth tax where every child born today inherits a debt from day one. Fiscal conservatives my Aunt Fannie.
Typical.
His country hemorrages the flower of its youth in an immoral and cynical war, folks go hungry in the richest nation on earth, and a corrupt Republican Congress sells the nation to the highest bidders on K Street, and all Tom can do is whine when the electorate finally wakes up is, “Waaaaaahhhhhh! MY TAXES are going to go up!!!!”
Pardon me if I show absolutely no sympathy.
And yes, my taxes will go up. So friggin’ what. I can afford it, and as long as those who can’t afford it get a break, guess what? I DON’T CARE.
Jeff, do tell! Where did you hear this? Any links?
specter will never change parties…nor should he
i am sure that he is relieved that he will no longer be under the pressure of the far right in his party
Mike, Thanks for all you did for us in Virginia…God Bless!!!
Sharoney…Can’t give you any specifics right now because I don’t have them, but keep your ears open. Insiders here in DC have been quietly chattering all day he is open to discussion…chatter is too loud not to be taken seriously, but no published reports or confirmation yet….Other two widely mentioned to be targets are Snowe and Collins. Talk of offers of comittee chairs on the table for all three. Would be a strong coup for Maine voters, and solidify NE bloc.
Excellent article in Rolling Stone - mind you, it’s just speculation, but first to put the notion into print.
Read and enjoy: “Defection Watch: Snowe, Collins, Specter”
http://www.rollingstone.com/nationalaffairs/?p=775
little help here (anyone?) : I thought I heard Hannity saying some nonsense today about J.D. Hayworth fighting to save his seat in Az. Does anyone know how that race went. I heard Hayworth lost. Thanks for any info. on this. Have a Great day, America !
“By cutting the death tax and all the spending you mention, they’ve effectively created a birth tax where every child born today inherits a debt from day one.”
You are correct. each citizen’s share of this National Debt is estimated at debt is $28,600. That’s PER PERSON for every man, woman and child in the United States.
Average family of four has effectively been mortgaged with over $110,000 in future taxation PLUS INTEREST thanks to the Bush tax and spending policies…
And it just keeps growing under this administration…the National Debt has continued to increase an average of over $2 billion per day since September 2006.
Thanks for voting for Bush, Tom….I really enjoyed my $600 refund check, you idiot.
I’d say that Jeff and chickfu are absolutely correct in saying that the Republican Party is NOT fiscally conservative. I doubt that many of the recent Reps who have said that they are concerned about the deficit have meant it or are willing to do anything about it.
I think that our current tax system is onerous and imbalanced. While Sharoney and others might be happy paying out more taxes (I have taken that same position at times in regards to state issues), it should be obvious that lack of money isn’t and never has been the real issue.
The financial future that we leave for our children will be much healthier if our two-faced representatives CUT spending and quit putting pork in their back pockets (just ask the good senator from WV- he knows all about it!)
If your in rough financial shape, do you
1. just get a loan to take care of the problem, do you
2. cut out the fat in your budget, or do you
3. tell your boss that he/she better give you a raise to meet your demands?
Many Americans actually opt for #1; the government chooses option 1 and 3. I guess it is my pipe dream to think that anyone is interested in #2!
Jeff- there is no sense in getting upset- I’m sure that you enjoyed that 600.00. Most people took it out and blew it on worthless crap - they enjoyed that too! I paid ~ $90,000 in taxes last year- I enjoyed that… well, not exactly, but I’m not whining about it! I guess I’m an idiot because I haven’t figured how to get around those pesky taxes like all the lucky, greedy, rich folks do.
Mark Warner was fiscally conservative; did he attack the budget problem by raising taxes or by cutting the state spending? Check out the VDOT website and you’ll see that they are cutting some serious fat. You can bitch and moan all day about Bush’s screwups, but you will never be able to prove that the debt can be cleared by raising taxes. Those who do should brush up on their economics!
Nance, I heard Shit Hammity say the same thing about J.D. Bigheadworth also..I haven’t found anything yet..have you??
Nance, I found this on his website..I guess he hasn’t given his concession speech yet. ” Important Campaign Update
The race for Congress in CD05 is far from over. There are still tens of thousands of ballots to be counted, including early voting, absentee, and provisional. It is important that every vote be counted in order to determine the actual winner. And we will work to make sure that the count is complete and accurate. “
Thanks for the info, Kat. Did you get that off of Hayworth’s site or Hannity’s?
Nance, I found that at Hayworth’s site..and I just read at dkos that they are still counting thousands of ballots in Mean Jean’s race..oh could it be true??? Jean doesn’t have anything on her worthless site so I’m still looking for details.
Tom, Sure…West Va is bad, but you’ve been listening to too much Sean Hannity.
When it comes to gobbling pork, the kings are New Mexico and Alaska. In our area, we do pretty well. For every federal tax dollar we invest, we are getting $1.41 back in servirces in Maryland, and $1.60 in Virginia.
West Virginia gets a return of $1.75, but Alaska rakes back in an amazing $1.80, and New Mexico hauls in almost DOUBLE what they pay in at $1.91.
If Robert Byrd is a “babe the pig”, then Ted Stephens and Pete Domenici are more like “Jabba the Hutt”…..But Sean always forgets to mention that…Wonder if the “R” after their names has anything to do with it.
Think about it.
Jeff, re: Repugs defecting–maybe we ought to add Lincoln Chaffee to the list. I just read on DailyKos that he has effectively deep-sixed the Bolton nomination. Sounds like he’s had enough.
Thanks for the info. I’ll be watching with bated breath!
Still waiting for Cletus,
come out, come out, wherever you are…….
Specter can stick to the right, anyone who knows anything about the JFK conspiracy knows that Spector lied his ass of and was happy to sign off on the totally bogus Warren Commission report. Anyway.
Well done Mr. Stark.
I still stick to my theory that between now and about four weeks before the ‘08 elections something masterfully executed and absolutely horrible will happen again here. Rove won’t go away, wait for his “I told you so” campaign. Wait.
Mike didn’t have to ‘make the race go even’. Allen did that himself by opening his racist mouth and letting his dogs off leash.
You could even say Allen hung himself.
Mike just loaned him the rope.
“Still waiting for Cletus,
come out, come out, wherever you are…….”
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Cletus wrapped his trailer in plastic sheeting and duct tape. He sealed himself inside, and says he’s not prepared to come out until Ken Mehlmen personally comes to his door to tell him it was all just a nightmare. Unable to sleep, he has survived the past 100 hours on a steady diet of yoo-hoo slim jims and no-doze. Right now, he is sitting in the center of the floor in a dark interior room he likes to call his “Ronald Reagan Shrine”, and for the past three days he has been rocking back and forth, listening to Sean Hannity on an AM transister radio and sticking the muzzle of an unloaded pistol in his mouth and repeatedly pulling the trigger.
Personally, I’d give him a few days to work things out.
Jeff- Hopefully the shift in Congress will spark a change in the spending habits of our representatives. I have no doubt that you are correct about the offending Republicans (and I’m sure there are more such examples)- though I think Byrd started his pork collecting shortly after WV was separated from VA!
While I disagree with some of the things I read on Mikes postings, I think that all Americans should be as anxious to hold government accountable.
BTW, My talker of choice would be Boortz- not Hannity. Bortz doesn’t allow the Republicans any slack when discussing federal spending.
Kat -
I had not heard that about Schmidt. Last I saw, she was actually ahead by a couple of percentage points (this was Tues. night before all precincts had reported, however) so I am not too optimistic. That would be great, though !
I’d like to propose a little internal contest. Look at the posts above, and pick out your favorite “unrealistic & grasping for straws” quote from a right-wing troller, and re-post it for everyone to enjoy. My pick is:
“Republicans have the unique ability to rally around something and fix it”
What’s yours?
Jeff, can we go back over previous threads for quotes? There are soooooo many gems over the past few days.
Here is the website to check the updated results of the J.D. Hayworth race.(they are supposed to be updated at 5pm daily).
http://www.azsos.gov/results/2006/general/GEN-1005.htm
Thanks, Exsuds !
I can’t decide:
Roger: “..(you) don’t know shit about world politics and would rather be a communist which is exactly what progressive means”
Mikec: “..Bush can limit their (democrats) damage to the country”
From the infamous mikec:
“Thanks asswipe; I’ll look for you at webbs concession speech.” I can hear one of Chris Mathews’ HAH! after that!
Okay, people…let’s hear your votes for which troll wins for the quote which shows the most tenuous connection to reality, and would be most likely to be presented as evidence at a psychiatric committment hearing. Is it:
1) MikeC: “Come on back here about 9 tonight, sharoney. Allens victory speech should be wrapping up by then.” and/or “Thanks asswipe; I’ll look for you at webbs concession speech.”
2) MikeC: “A Pelosi/Reid leadership will leave the Republicans stronger than ever in a couple years.”
3) Eric: “Republicans have the unique ability to rally around something and fix it”
4) Roger: “..(you) don’t know shit about world politics and would rather be a communist which is exactly what progressive means”
5) Mikec: “..Bush can limit their (democrats) damage to the country”
Let’s hear your votes, people…winning troll gets a free week’s stay at Clifton Perkins State Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Jessup. (Padded Restraints and all the thorozine you can eat included, electroshock therapy is extra)
I vote for #3 - Eric…it displays a total inability to recognize that Republicans controlled all three branches of Government, and the only thing they could reliably fix was elections.
Polling closes Saturday at 11:00 p.m….vote early and vote often.
Where have all the trolls gone, long time passing?
Where have all the trolls gone, long time ago?
Where have all the trolls gone?
The polls have picked them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Jeff-
The era of Big Government Republicanism is over. Starting with Mike Pence we begin our road to recovery. I’ll watch for two years while the Democrats screw this country even more… and in 2008 voters will be reminded that Democrats are even WORSE than Big Government Republicans and conservatism will return to power once more.
Enjoy your two years as the majority party jackass. Cause I know I sure will
What eric is saying (really gonna enjoy) is that it’ll take two years for the democrats to clean up all the elephant shit.
Has anybody seen clayton?
I am starting to worry that he may have done some harm to himself.
Right, Eric…your predictions have just been sooooo accurate lately.
Poor Eric…hopelessly mired in the ANGER stage of his grief process.
Eric….Your side lost. You need to spend more time hoping and less time Ha’tin.
Run along now, little one.
Two words you need to spend the next 24 months working on saying with respect.
“President Clinton”.
Go do your homework, son.
Hey, Eric.
I think Jeff has a point, your “predictions” are really just your “wishes”. Like I said earlier this week - for anyone (GOP or DEM) to act like they know what will happen in 2008 is really pretty silly. Everyone thought Bill Clinton was dead politically in 1994 but he won re-election easily and now is thought of as one of our greatest presidents. Everyone thought Daddy Bush was a sure thing for two terms. His approval rating dropped 60 points in one year. And the current Bush was thought to not have a chance for re-election. I mean the guy couldn’t even articulately complete a thought in his debates but 9-11 allowed him a second term (9/11 and maybe a little funny business in Ohio ….. great to see Blackwell get his comeupance by the way). So pretending to know what voters will do in two years is, like I said, silly. There are too many unforseen variables.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a late entry for the “quote which shows the most tenuous connection to reality, and would be most likely to be presented as evidence at a psychiatric committment hearing.” contest. It comes from our resident troll Eric:
6) “in 2008 voters will be reminded that Democrats are even WORSE than Big Government Republicans and conservatism will return to power once more.”
Please add this to your consideration along with the aforementioned five. Eric is trying really hard…I believe he wants to win the prize.
I vote for Eric just on principle..he has none. And BTW Eric, the Dems actually LISTEN to what people think, unlike the BUSH FAMILY EVIL EMPIRE, so don’t expect them to dig in their heels and go all stubborn like some punk we all know that has to have his daddy’s pals come in and bail him out, again.
I personally like this one from mike (the winger not the blogger)
“These fucking sand mutts have been attacking us for decades. Bush is the first president to actually try to end the war that nobody acknowledged before 9/11. The surest way to ensure that this war will never end is to elect cowardly democrats who will embolden terrorists by presenting a weak America. I almost hope you idiots win the white house in 08. Your weak spined response to the next 9/11 will be the end of the democratic party once and for all.”
It combines racism, hatred of the left and strawmen. It’s a freeper trifecta of talking points.
But let’s not forget our favorite ‘lil Cletus. While not as able as his intellectual superior, mike the winger (and I say that mockingly to both because if mike is a gibbering idiot, Cletus is a sockpuppet), cletus is no slouch at hating the left and all those pesky brown people.
“And they taught you that evil rich Republicans got that way by stealing from the poor (the logic of that escapes me), and want to hurt everyone by poisoning the water and beating up n[SIC]s. Well, I’m not rich. I don’t beat up n[SIC]s. And hell, I drink water.
And I have a little pity for the really stoopid. Not much, but at least I don’t shoot them anymore - yer safe! ”
Such a smorgie of ignorance it’s hard to choose. Perhaps we could expand the categories: most racist; biggest sockpuppet moment (aka the parrot award); best combination of talking points; etc.
what is truly funny is listening to the right wing pundits saying things like the repugs just werent conservative enough, or that it was the media’s fault.
they dont get that the neocon philosophy is doomed to failure, for it is based on the assumption that the american populace is stupid and needs to be ruled.
the current republican party depends on the southern strategy (a racist proposition that is slowly eroding with time) and social conservatives. the prob with social conservatives is that you have to keep them happy by dishing out money, so that strategy ends when the party returns to its goldwater roots.
to think mike pence is gonna fix the prob is laughable.
this is not saying that the republicans cannot take back both the house and senate in 08 as well as the presidency, this is saying that the party of goldwater is dead.
it is also important to note that the republicans lost every minority and the youth vote this time…that does not bode well for their future.
Bacci,
Speaking of the Republican Southern Strategy and associated dirty tricks, here where I live in Prince George’s County, Maryland, the Nations largest and most Affluent African American Majority County, the Republican Governor (Ehrlich), running for re-election, and the Republican Lt Governor (Steele), running for Senate, went so far as to create a poll piece targeted at African Americans that was Black, Orange and Green, was titled “Democratic Sample Ballot”, and subtitled “Ehrlich-Steele Democrats,”. It had the pictures of three influential African American Democrats — Wayne K. Curry, Prince George’s County Executive Jack B. Johnson and Kweisi Mfume — and said at the bottom, “These are OUR choices.”.
One little problem….None of the three endorsed the republican ticket.
It gets better….The Ehrlich and Steele campaigns then paid a prison release program operated out of Philadelphia to supply five busloads of homeless black men who were paid $100 each plus three meals to work the polls in Prince George’s County handing out the bogus poll flier.
While at first denying knowledge of any connection to the campaign, Governor Ehrlich’s campaign director had to admit it was orchistrated after footage of the Governor and his Wife addressing the five busloads of men at campaign headquarters emerged.
It failed. Both lost.
When word of the sham got out, it backfired, and is predicted to have reprocussions on Republican efforts to woo African American voters in Maryland for years to come.
Honorable mention to “Bucknation” who put in so much time and effort responding to the obvious concern kook troll “Scott Laughley” while telling him he’s so much smarter because he knows which news sources to “suckle” off of.
Thanks for standing up to George Allen and his goons, Mike. You made history.
Hey Kat (or anyone),
Any new info. on any recounts ?
Most recent updates on still-open house races, some of which may take weeks to resolve recounts:
• Connecticut’s 2nd District: The latest count shows Democratic challenger Joe Courtney leading Republican Rep. Rob Simmons by 167 votes. A recount appears all but certain in this race.
• Florida’s 13th District: A recount, scheduled for early next week, is already assured in this contest between Democrat Christine Jennings and Republican Vern Buchanan, who leads by 373 votes — less than one-tenth of 1 percent of all ballots cast, according to the latest count.
Voting irregularities in Sarasota County have complicated the counting: Records show 18,382 people who cast a ballot did not vote in the 13th District race, a number far higher than seen in any other contests on the ballot. But Sarasota County elections supervisor Kathy Dent has attributed these “undervotes” to the vitriolic campaign between Buchanan and Jennings, which she suggested turned many voters off to both candidates.
• Georgia’s 12th District: Democratic Rep. John Barrow leads his Republican opponent, former Rep. Max Burns, by about 1,000 votes, with fewer than 1 percent of precincts still outstanding. Though Burns will be able to request a recount, sources with his campaign indicate he has no desire to drag the contest out any longer than necessary. Today Burns said he is holding out until complete totals are released on Monday.
• New Mexico’s 1st District: Republican Rep. Heather A. Wilson leads her Democratic opponent, state Attorney General Patricia Madrid, by 1,337 votes — about two-thirds of 1 percent of all votes cast. Looking at those precincts that have not been tallied, it appears difficult for Madrid to catch up.
• North Carolina’s 8th District: The final count of the extremely close race in the south-central part of the state will determine if Democrat Larry Kissell succeeded in his bid to defeat four-term Republican Rep. Robin Hayes — which would be one of the year’s biggest upsets — or fell just short.
With all precincts reporting in official returns, Hayes led Kissell by 465 votes out of 120,497 counted, a margin of less than four-tenths of 1 percent. About 1,492 provisional ballots are still being counted, however.
Kissell, a social studies teacher, overcame huge disadvantages in campaign money and name recognition to make a serious run at Hayes in a district where industrial decline is a big issue. A recount, now expected, would take place Nov. 20 or 21.
• Ohio’s 2nd District: Little has changed since Wednesday in this contest between Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt and Democrat Victoria Wulsin. In the latest count, Schmidt led Wulsin by 50.6 percent to 49.3 percent, or 2,865 votes out of more than 228,000 cast. A final call on this race may not be possible until a canvass of votes is finished, which may not begin for more than a week.
• Ohio’s 15th District: Republican Rep. Deborah Pryce has seen her edge over Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy, a Franklin County commissioner, erode from about 11,000 votes on Wednesday to 3,536 votes Thursday. The final outcome will depend on about 20,000 provisional ballots and about 20,000 absentee ballots left to be counted in Franklin County. About half of those ballots fall in the 15th District.
The Ohio secretary of state’s office says an official canvass may begin in just over a week. That is when the provisional and absentee ballots will be added to the total. Official numbers may not be available until Nov. 18. The Pryce campaign believes the incumbent has already won the race and has urged Kilroy to concede, though the Democrat says she will wait until the canvass is finished.
• Wyoming At-Large: Democratic challenger Gary Trauner said Thursday afternoon he is waiting to see the outcome of provisional ballots counted by the counties in his race against Republican Rep. Barbara Cubin. Trauner campaign spokeswoman Linda Stoval said if 39 votes turn in his favor, it would make it an automatic recount. “If it doesn’t trigger an automatic recount, he will be fine with the results,” she said. Cubin leads by 970 votes — 38 votes more than the threshold for an automatic recount.
• Washington’s 8th District: Most returns in the race between Republican Rep. Dave Reichert and Democratic challenger Darcy Burner were not available until today: Vote-counting was slowed by flooding rains that hit early this week and a large amount of mail ballots. The latest tally shows Reichert leading by 2,736 votes. Local media outlets have reported, however, that a large number of absentee ballots are expected, and the Burner campaign has said it is waiting for those to be added to the count before deciding what it will do next.
• Texas’ 23rd District and Louisiana’s 2nd District: Both of these races will be decided by December runoffs, though only the contest in Texas can affect the size of the Democratic majority. That runoff pits Republican Rep. Henry Bonilla against Democratic former Rep. Ciro D. Rodriguez. The contest in the New Orleans-based 2nd District will include Democratic Rep. William J. Jefferson, under FBI investigation and accused of accepting bribes, and Democratic state Rep. Karen Carter.
Thanks very much for the detailed info.
did you get all that off of a particular website etc. If so, which one?
Thanks again !
Dang, dude, this is the first I’ve read of your blog since before the election. You’ve been busy! You effectively killed an incumbent senator’s re-election and swung the Senate back to the Good Guys. Thanks for showing us how much power one person with a little determination and a few recording devices has! Consider taking down Lieberman next, huh?
UPDATE ON 10 STILL UNDECIDED HOUSE RACES:
Here are the latest updates as of Noon Monday:
CURRENTLY DEMOCRAT-LEANING:
CT-02: Dem challenger Joe Courtney has declared victory with a 66-vote edge, but the miniscule margin automatically triggers a recount. Courtney recently lost 100 votes due to a newly-discovered canvassing error. The recount must be completed by midnight this Wednesday.
GA-12: Incumbent Dem John Barrow leads by less than 1,000 votes, with a recount being likely. Barrow has declared victory. Republican Max Burns insists that the remaining overseas and provisional ballots could put him over the top. If Dems hold this seat, they will have completely shut out the GOP on House, Senate and governorship pick-ups.
CURRENTLY REPUBLICAN-LEANING:
FL-13: The race for Katherine Harris’s open seat is potentially going to the courts. Dem Christine Jennings trails by less than 400 votes, with reports of voting-machine problems in Sarasota County.
NC-08: GOP Rep. Robin Hayes has declared victory, currently holding a 465-vote lead. Dem challenger Larry Kissell would need to win the remaining 1,492 provisional ballots by an overwhelming margin. A recount appears likely. In North Carolina, recounts have traditionally favored the candidate who leads going in.
NM-02: GOP Rep. Heather Wilson leads by 1,487 votes, with 2,698 provisional ballots yet to be counted. Wilson has declared victory. If she’s to win, Dem Patricia Madrid would need to win a very large majority of the provisional votes.
OH-02: GOP Rep. Jean Schmidt has declared victory, but Dem Victoria Wulsin is waiting for all provisional ballots to be counted before conceding. Wulsin faces an uphill battle to overcome Schmidt’s 2,323-vote lead.
OH-15: With a lead of 3,536 votes GOP Rep. Deborah Pryce has declared victory, but Dem opponent Mary Jo Kilroy will not concede until some 19,000 uncounted absentee and provisional ballots are tallied. Pryce has also announced she will not seek re-election as Chair of the House Republican Conference if her win is sustained.
WA-08: GOP Rep. David Reichert holds a 3,514-vote lead over Dem Darcy Burner, with an estimated 20,000 absentee ballots, literally bursting from their bags, remaining from King County.
WY-AL: Dem Gary Trauner, trailing Rep. Barbara Cubin by 970 votes, might request a recount after canvassing is completed. However, his current deficit is a few dozen votes larger than the margin that would provide for a state-paid recount, and he is unlikely to seek one otherwise. Cubin has declared victory.
RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE SCHEDULED:
TX-23: GOP Rep. Henry Bonilla fell short of 50 percent, and faces a runoff with former Dem Rep. Ciro Rodriguez.
Jean Schmidt coming back? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Like, I don’t want to badger the people of the Cincinnati area, but people in that district wanted her over a veteran and a doctor? Geez. It seems like that area is the most crazily conservative in the country.
I know that any part of America that is red or politically conservative has no problem with more open heterosexual practices, which are very much a part of American life. The case can be made that political conservatives are more sexually promiscous! BUT only Cincinnati area is where you find prudishness and strictness being prized, no matter what kind of sexual activity we’re talking about. And at the same time, the people of the area, mainly the suburbs, are down-the-line conservative on any other issue (especially on race, worse than any Southern region). No wonder Larry Flynt who has a history with the area happens to be a Democrat.
I hate to say this, but I guess their sports teams deserve to fail for their extreme mentality that is out-of-line with the rest of the country. Their defense of Pete Rose is like the right-wing’s defense of Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, Tom Delay, Richard Nixon, etc. GOSH, THE HYPOCRISY!
Hey - I am a life long democrat and I have the lowest of opinions about Jean Schmidt ….. but let’s not attack Pete Rose. Charlie Hustle is a legend !
Just when you thought OUR resident wingnuts had the “Statement most shows the most tenuous connection to reality, and would be most likely to be presented as evidence at a psychiatric committment hearing.”, contest all wrapped up, along comes Mark Levin to steal the prize. And for those of you wondering, he was completely serious….clinically insane, mind you, but completely serious:
To Quote Sean Hannity’s DEAR (but not in a brokeback-way) friend, Mark Levin:
“I’m going against today’s conventional wisdom and suggesting that Rick Santorum and George Allen should consider running for the Republican presidential nomination….I still consider Santorum and Allen among the best and most appealing conservatives on the scene. I believe Santorum has national appeal, despite his loss in Pennsylvania. And although Allen’s campaign was knocked off stride, nobody will care much.”
Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe we have a winner.
ERIC SAID: “The era of Big Government Republicanism is over. Starting with Mike Pence we begin our road to recovery.”
Wow Eric…Wouldn’t that be great? Oops…unfortunately, the BIG GOVERNMENT REPUBLICANS who currently control your party chose to put John “The Boner” Boneir in the minority leader chair throwing Mike Spence under the bus in the process.
Guess for your side, it continues to be politics as usual through ‘08. So much for conservitives learning from your failures.
SUX2BU, dontit?
I thought cletus,… errr, I mean Clayton would come back after the elections. I really hope he didnt do something drastic like causing himself bodily harm!
That would be tragic.
OH, he’ll be back. But likely posting under a different name. Don’t forget, guys like Cletus are never wrong, and they can’t own up to failure publicly. Kinda like their demigod Chimpy McStagger.
