Actually, it is stalking. While Stark’s actions are perhaps not legally actionable (yet), they are consistent with stalking behavior. Here’s the psychology:
On the relatively rare occasions when people try to get close - physically, emotionally, socially - to those they hate, it’s for the purpose of hurting them. Although we tend not to describe it this way, such behavior is a form of attraction - albeit a perverse and destructive one.
People who yield to this impulse misinterpret negative attention as genuine, meaningful interaction. They construe their ability to dominate that negative response as a sign of their own potency. Failing to recognize this ability as merely destructive rather than creative, they rely on it as the basis of their identity. They come to thrive on control and domination, seeking validation of the self through the subjugation of others, and resorting to force and violence when they cannot achieve that subjugation through normal interaction (i.e., by having people simply agree with them to begin with, or yield to non-coercive persuasion). Common behaviors associated with this profile include general impulsiveness, a mixture of exhibitionist and withdrawn behavior without much in between, childhood mistreatment of animals, spouse abuse, child abuse, stalking, and sometimes rape.
Stark thought he was making a fool of MM when he did this. He’ll measure the negative response along two dimensions whose meanings contradict each other: the strength of the signal conveys a measure of validation that he’ll find gratifying; but the information it carries about his behavior will threaten his ill-formed identity. To resolve the resulting cognitive dissonance, he would need to either alter his sense of identity and the associated behavior, or escalate the behavior in order to dominate the negative response - which, in the extreme, means extinguishing the negative response.
In essence, this is a personality that takes negative feedback - the kind of response that should direct behavior back toward acceptable norms - as positive feedback - the kind of response that extends and radicalizes behavior further in the abnormal direction, away from the acceptable norm. Right now, he faces a choice: he can change his behavior, which means giving up the practice of making hostile contact with conservative figures (and letting all the negative commentary pass by without reacting overtly to it); or he can escalate his destructive contacts with Allen, MM, and others in the attempt to subjugate through destruction.
If he tends toward the latter, that will be a sign that he’s tending toward an increasingly deviant path, and is dangerous. At that point, his friends should get him some help.

No accusations of stalking coming from her camp.
There is a link to a thread showing a CPAC blogger posing with Mo Dowd of the NYTimes. It’s a caption this pic type of event. Everyone seems to think it’s hilarious that this soft little warblogger had his photo snapped next to a commie slut from the NYSlimes (the place Anne the Man believes should be bombed).

Actually, it is stalking. While Stark’s actions are perhaps not legally actionable (yet), they are consistent with stalking behavior. Here’s the psychology:
On the relatively rare occasions when people try to get close - physically, emotionally, socially - to those they hate, it’s for the purpose of hurting them. Although we tend not to describe it this way, such behavior is a form of attraction - albeit a perverse and destructive one.
People who yield to this impulse misinterpret negative attention as genuine, meaningful interaction. They construe their ability to dominate that negative response as a sign of their own potency. Failing to recognize this ability as merely destructive rather than creative, they rely on it as the basis of their identity. They come to thrive on control and domination, seeking validation of the self through the subjugation of others, and resorting to force and violence when they cannot achieve that subjugation through normal interaction (i.e., by having people simply agree with them to begin with, or yield to non-coercive persuasion). Common behaviors associated with this profile include general impulsiveness, a mixture of exhibitionist and withdrawn behavior without much in between, childhood mistreatment of animals, spouse abuse, child abuse, stalking, and sometimes rape.
Stark thought he was making a fool of MM when he did this. He’ll measure the negative response along two dimensions whose meanings contradict each other: the strength of the signal conveys a measure of validation that he’ll find gratifying; but the information it carries about his behavior will threaten his ill-formed identity. To resolve the resulting cognitive dissonance, he would need to either alter his sense of identity and the associated behavior, or escalate the behavior in order to dominate the negative response - which, in the extreme, means extinguishing the negative response.
In essence, this is a personality that takes negative feedback - the kind of response that should direct behavior back toward acceptable norms - as positive feedback - the kind of response that extends and radicalizes behavior further in the abnormal direction, away from the acceptable norm. Right now, he faces a choice: he can change his behavior, which means giving up the practice of making hostile contact with conservative figures (and letting all the negative commentary pass by without reacting overtly to it); or he can escalate his destructive contacts with Allen, MM, and others in the attempt to subjugate through destruction.
If he tends toward the latter, that will be a sign that he’s tending toward an increasingly deviant path, and is dangerous. At that point, his friends should get him some help.
