Isn't it nice how she sounds so sweetly mendacious? I noticed that Bohannon didn't call her on it when she admitted she knew of no cases of this insurance covering male pattern baldness. I haven't listened to him in many, many years. I don't think I've heard him since he used to fill in for Larry King on his radio show. Back then, he was actually good.

Thanks for calling her Mike.

Did she mention moral hazard? Probably. Adverse Selection and Death Spiral? Unlikely.

The other point to make is how we all know how well insurance companies work already. I mean, just take a look at all those Katrina claims being denied....water damage vs hurricane damage.

Mike,

I think you have a really good point about the checkbox system. I just finished my first year tort law class and we learned about different systems to compensate for say car accidents. The point of an insurance should be to spread risk around. I might not need hair transplant but I might need some kind of eye surgery. I can't believe we still don't have universal health care. There might be some procedures where the costs far outweight the benefits, but this idea of making health care a trip to the cafeteria makes absolutely no sense.

It reminds me of people putting 100% of their 401k in their company stock. Insurance schemes and security nets should be mandated and well designed because in the long run, even free markets types should recognize that a member of society that becomes unproductive is a burden to the rest of us. If they can't get around to help others for humanitarian reasons, they should at least do it for selfish reasons.

Keep up the good work.

So a grant for low income workers who don't have health insurance is okay? I wonder how she feels about single payer/universal state-sponsored health insurance? I don't know how you can listen to this stuff. It makes me sick. Glad you can call in and inject some reality into this bizarro world.
