If our laws were severe enough so that the punishment were such that being here in this country illegally was bad enough, people would just voluntarily go back to their own country. I don’t understand… [Hannity interrupts with a non sequitor] I grew up in the Middle East, and we had a situation over there where they tried to keep my father in the country long enough for his work permit to expire so that they could throw him in prison and then hang him within 10 days. So they don’t have a problem with illegals in their country because the people want to make sure that they’re not going to be caught there illegally. We wouldn’t have a problem here; we wouldn’t have to pay the money to kick the illegals out if we just make the rules, enforce it so that they don’t want to be caught here…
Hannity cut in and said:
I agree with you. And I gotta tell ya something… the idea people say, “Well, what are ya gonna do? You can’t keep everybody out?” and I’m like, “Oh yes we can…”

Sure. If INS police were to begin putting a bullet in the head of anyone caught being here illegally, I agree that we might see massive groupings of aliens moving toward the border. That still would ignore the fact that ALL of these people came here in the first place because there was an employer willing to pay him or her a sub-minimum wage to work in one of those jobs that Americans refuse to do (for less than $15.00 per hour).
Before we begin blaming illegals for being here - before we spend our hard-earned tax dollars to punish them (or execute them, as the caller insinuates that we should) - before we pay billions to build a thousand-mile fence on the border - before we pay even more billions to round them all up and imprison them - before we spend more and more billions of dollars (that we don’t have anyway) to round them all up and deport them, let’s first stop luring them here with slave-wage jobs.
What has America become? We now own slaves, blame them for being here, and threaten them with prison, deportation, or death. We tell our politicians to come up with over-simplified solutions to the issue - solutions that will only pacify the uneducated masses.
Welcome to AmeriKKKa, Sean’s vision for our future, where the only brown people who we allow to cross our borders are the ones who know their place in society….the back of the bus.
And the only thing we have to fear are those things that Sean TELLS us we have to fear.

Hey Jeff, if the Mexicans are motivated and intelliigent enough to build a ladder, why not fill out a VISA application? Why do you think America is wrong for wanting to:
1. Have immigration laws.
2. Enforce said laws.
Are our immigration laws unfair? Then let’s change them.

I love how people hear about stories about this and whip out the ole’ “They’re in here working jobs that Americans dont want to do”. Listen buddy, have you ever stopped to talk to the over 7 million americans that are currently unemployed right now? I’d love to know what sort of jobs that you think these illegal immigrants are doing that other unemployed or desperate LEGAL americans dont want to do.
By turning a blind eye or supporting those that enter and work in the united states illegally, we mock those that entered the country through legal channels.
To answer your question, I don’t know you well enough to label you as a regular sipper of the wiangnut koolaid, but based on your reply, I can see that you invest three hours a day in Hannity’s little twisted corner of the universe, and that is likely your only source for news. I’ll try to answer your questions in terms even a Sean listener can understand, so stay with me, Skippy….To answer your primary question about why people who cross the border don’t just fill out a visa request; The wait average wait time in Mexico to get an APPOINTMENT to be interviewed tT be allowed to fill out a visa application is more than four months. That’s just to get to the preliminary application stage….I guess Sean forgot to tell his listeners that part of the story. Once you filll out the application, investigation can take another year and a half…and that’s just for a visiting worker visa. Live in Mexico and want to come here and be a citizen? You fill that application out, and you must return to Mexico and kiss your visitor status goodbye for the entire length of the process, which can take from five to 22 years. Five years might not sound like much, but that’s if you are MARRYING a U.S. citizen….the average is over eight years. We call that Burocracy where I come from. Sound like a line you want to stand in? Me neither. As for your question about where I draw the line on obeying laws, regardless of what Sean has told you, illegal entry is not a major infraction of United States Law. Most legal scholars place it akin to a speeding ticket. However, speeding places the general public at grave danger of bodily injury or death, but we do not round up every speeder and throw them in jail, do we? Heavens no…that would be rediculous.
Laws are formed for the public good. Breaking ANY one of them makes you unlawful, but it does not necessairly warrant the term “criminal”. Oral sex is breaking the law in Tennesee….does that make every person who gives or receives it a criminal in your book? Not mine. Studies have shown that in almost every catagory, undocumented immigrant populations commit fewer crimes and account for a lower per capita percentage of prison detainees than the general American population. Regardless of immigration status, if someone lives a relatively law-abiding life, what is it to you?
If it isn’t about crime, and it isn’t I think the crux of your arguments, as well as Sean’s, relate to assimilation. You, and many in our Country who think like you, seem to fear loss of what you understand to be our “culture” to non-english speaking people. People just like you feared the Italians at the turn of the century, they feared the Irish in the teens and the twenties, and they feared the jews in the thirties. Now, you fear Mexicans. I don’t know what you would call that, but I personally call that racism and xenophobia. Let me assuage your fears…America has absorbed MANY cultures, and the Nation has become better for it.
Here’s a final litmus test in asking YOURSELF if you might be racist, Skippy…If Sean’s worries on the border fence are NOT driven by an unnatural fear of Mexicans…If they are National Security and terrorism based, then can you explain to me why Hannity has visited the 1,900 mile long border with Mexico five times calling for a 70 mile long fence, yet we share over 5,500 miles of border with Canada, and the ONLY documented attempt at incursion by a terrorist operative occured in Washington state….(which, by the way, Skippy, was foiled by the CLINTON administration), yet Sean has visited there exactly ZERO times. Five times to the 1900 mile borser with Mexico, zero times to the OVER FIVE THOUSAND MILE LONG BORDER with Canada….

Do you even understand what the term “Rule of Law” actually refers to? here’s a little two minute edumication on the textbook definition of what the “Rule of Law” actually means.

In the most basic sense, the rule of law is a system that attempts to protect the rights of citizens from arbitrary and abusive use of government power.”
Now, granted, some of those words are well above the sixth-grade comprehension level of the average Hannity listener, but you catch the drift that “Rule of Law” means that GOVERNMENT shall not arbitrairly apply laws to exercise its power in an abusive manner.
Now, tell me, I/P/W….what does that textbook definition of the “Rule of Law” actually have to do with the bastardation of the term “Rule of Law” that Hannity keeps foisting to frighten you with when he preaches on and on that not arresting or shooting undocumented Mexicans on sight is somehow breaking the American “Rule of Law”?

MY opinion has nothing to do with fear. It comes from order. Follow the rules, that’s all i care about. Do you want to enter the country? Do so legally. Once again you DIDNT ANSWER THE QUESTION…..ANSWER THE QUESTION how are they law abiding citizens when they break the law by being here. Yeah they contribute greatly society?? how is that possible, they cant vote (as much as the dems want to sign them up). They come here to earn wages, they dont pay Soc Sec tax, Medicare Tax, State or Federal Tax and they send most of their money home taking it out of our economy (its their money they can do what they like once they are legal). Since they dont have health insurance (because they are here illegally) I must pay for any care they receive. Since they cant get drivers licenses I pay a higher premium for my insurance “just in case”.
I was kidding about lining the military up at the border and shooting them but theoretically they are INVADING by crossing the border illegally, I mean we do have check points where they could cross right?? There is a reason why we have a border right?? Isnt that what LAW ABIDING citizens would do??

Apparently, you do not understand the concept of REASONABLE accommodation. Let me explain it to you. We do attempt to accommodate SPANISH speaking people because there is a significant population of Spanish speaking people in our country. Businesses do this not because they are REQUIRED to do it…There is no law requiring it…there does not have to be one. Businesses choose to do it because extending the courtesy to their customers increases their profit. Businesses DO NOT choose to accommodate German, French and Latin speakers because the populations of people who reside in the United States speaking those languages are considered to be insignificant. Adding those other options would constitute an UN-reasonable burden on businesses. Governments DO have requirements…Governments do it because it is the right thing to do. As an old lady that never had an opportunity to finish my education, some may see me as being stupid. That said…please help me to understand if I’m right or wrong.
1. How does being in a country illegally equate to others being a racist if they don’t care for that illegal activity?
2. Someone said that being here illegally is a minor infraction. What about the other laws that are broken because of it - say identity theft - because of that 1st *minor* illegal action. They obtain social services/credit with that stolen I.D. that could (and has) harm the rightful owner, even our children. American citizens have to pay for this. This is not racist thinking is it?
3. By coming here illegally, they have avoided some very important steps by not becoming legal and not having a medical check-up is one of them. They can (and have) spread diseases that have been eradicated here in America for a long time. This too hurt American citizens, right?
I understand why anybody would want to come to the United States to live. But what I don’t understand is why anyone would want to harm the country that they say they want to be a citizen of, and that’s what being illegal does.
It’s ok to be hard working, good people…that’s how I see a lot of American citizens too. But that doesn’t make me feel any sympathy for a person if the first thing they do when they get here is break the law. I think most americans believe in the laws that rule this country, good or bad. But they are here to protect it’s citizens.
That said…my hatred is with these companies that hire illegal immigrants (and that’s not being racist). It was their intention to exploit these people in the first place and then dump their other responsibility on to the American tax payers. I also have a hatred for any politician who support illegal activity. That tells me that they are having their pockets filled by this activity and they can’t be trusted. Of course I could be wrong about all of the above - but I don’t think so.
Dusty, ask yourself…Are mexicans in America really the biggest problem America has to face at the present time? You seem a reasonable person, but you are listening to people who are misleading you, and in the process, they are sending America in the wrong direction. Think about ALL the major issues we as a Nation should be worried about, and then write them down on a piece of paper. Then re-list them in the order of true importance. Now, where does immigration place on YOUR list? If it is in the top three, you certainly have a problem, and need to reevaluate your sense of priorities.

What about inspection of cargo entering this country, seeking alternitive forms of energy to remove our dependence on oil from the middle east, terrorism preparedness in the homeland, the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, physical and monetary reenforcement of our men and women in uniform, the current sub-prime home loan market and its effects on our economy, review of subsidies to the big three oil producers, saving the small farm, health care reform, tort reform, prescription drugs for the elderly, reevaluation of our infrastructure so that bridges don’t just fall down, recovery of the Gulf Region (American, not Persian), prenatal care for the poor…hell, Dusty…there’s just fifteen problems that I consider larger than immigration….can you list me the thirteen that fall BELOW immigration in order for you to put the Big “I” in the top three?
Illegal immigration is just part of the big picture of things that I feel is terribly wrong with this country. You have named several of those problem areas that brings that picture into focus. And I’ll just add exporting American jobs and importing cheap labor. NAFTA! The very food that we eat…the toys that my grand children play with, all for the sake of free trade that can kill us. Point blank, having an open forum does not constitute endorsement, Skippy..it constitutes free speech…you need look no farther than Bill-O’s webpage to understand that. Messages left in his comments section include such jems as “Homosexuals are dogs”, “I hate blacks”, “Hillary Clinton should be assassinated” and “A stray bullet should kill [Clinton]” Yet, those are clearly NOT O’Liely’s comments, and HE should not be held responsible for hate filled “comments” left by others in an open forum.
